The legendary Nickelodeon game show Double Dare made its debut 40 years ago today, October 6th, 1986. It would become one of the cornerstones of the early cable channel days of Nickelodeon and help the channel become a giant not just for children's television but for cable as a whole.

I just learned that my 2017 painting was the basis of the Anchiornis design from the Netflix documentary Life on Our Planet! 🐡🪶
Gouache painting of Anchiornis huxleyii, a small feathered dinosaur, climbing through branches. He's mostly grey with black-spotted white wing, leg, and tail feathers and a rusty red crest and cheek feathers.

The captions are as follows:
Perpetual blood crust around mouth
body caked in ichor
wispy hair like desiccated worms
wide mouth for chomping bones
worn out loincloth for maximum dexterity
bones
gotta show off those nasty feet

I don't know how people find these random old posts, but sometimes they find a winner. Yesterday someone liked this 2+ year old image and it let me see it again. Look at baby Colin Robinson.

If you are truly feeling overwhelmed and struggling to find information make sure you tell it to cite its sources and check out the sources yourself to verify what it is saying. Ezpz. It's two Ds of the 4D framework: diligence and discernment

They're usually 18-22 year olds who have been brainwashed and are finally allowed to go out on their own. If you have the time, you can have a polite and honest theological discussion or just send them on their way. I'm an exmo and the missionaries were usually solid altruistic young adults

😭 I hadn't had missionaries come for a while since leaving AZ and we used to give them water since they're on bikes and two came not too long ago and I kept vehemently asking if they wanted some water in the moderate Midwest weather

It’s great how the thing that allows you to be most morally superior is to engage in costly signaling that drives Jewish people who don’t self-humiliate and make themselves vulnerable out of your social circles, but costs you as a gentile zilch (unless of course you have scared Jewish loved ones)

It’s pretty wild how the defining moral issue of our time is supposedly something that requires you to alienate a particular ethnic group to take the “right” stance, and that ethnic group is conveniently small enough that their population is overwhelmingly confined to a couple of US states

“Just a cat”. Rude! Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Black and white photo of a lovely shorthaired grey cat standing on a line of smooth rocks that look like they may have been placed there to border a driveway or something. The cat is looking at the camera with its tail up, obviously friendly. Cursive handwriting in the upper left corner reads “Just a cat”.

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas. Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

Toyota's unease at being associated with the Taliban and Al Qaeda is evident. In its September statement, the company said,
'Toyota does not have a sales or distribution channel in Afghanistan, and we do not export vehicles to that country."
Somewhat less laconic was Wade Hoyt, Toyota's spokesman in New York, who put the best corporate spin on the situation this week.
"It is not our proudest product placement," he said. "But it shows that the Taliban are looking for the same qualities as any truck buyer: durability and reliability."
