My son has struggled to make friends with most other boys until last year. He did not like aggressive & rough play, not just bc he didn’t want to get hurt, but even more so bc as a relatively tall & strong kid for his age, he didn’t want to hurt anyone even accidentally. +

The Cornell thing is reminding me of (1) the Canadian Juniors Hockey Team SA case (very similar & all were acquitted by a judge here in Ontario) & (2) my time serving on my university’s Non-Academic Student Discipline Panel (the reason the outcomes of these cases never shock me)

I had a prof for one semester of university French who graded us based on personal progress & mastery. He also gave us many different ways to interact with our language learning so that if one way didn’t help us demonstrate those things, another would. It was one of the best experiences ever.

We shouldn’t be gatekeeping various interventions that we know work for most kids. Accommodations also shouldn’t be dedicated to combating things we know no longer work. Structural change is needed, & we have known this for about 50 years.

Reading my kid’s OT report like OMG this was me. Thinking back to how my similarly wired bestie & I used to push each other into lockers while walking down the hall & enjoyed mosh pits & wore a thousand heavy bracelets & necklace we could chew & stim with all day like… yeah that tracks.

A lot of my favourite teachers had to leave the profession bc it was so ridiculous in terms of culture / psychological warfare so IDK why I thought I was so special & was gonna make it through an entire career without being destroyed by it, despite being told this is what would happen.

I used to have to bring my first period teacher a coffee if I was gonna be late. I was late a lot in grade nine (ADHD & extroverted) so coffee became like a bonding thing. He was cool and left the profession tho. So I guess that says something.

NGL if I were a principal & someone showed up to an interview w an iced coffee I’d be like this person is cool we will vibe 😂 they could be a terrible person but my bias would totally run counter to the Fortune 500 thing. I cannot be the only person whose friends mainly chat via WhatsApp, IG Messenger, or Facebook Messenger instead of text. Text is mostly for family & some of my closest friends who haven’t moved super far away & who have had my cell number since ninth grade. That’s it. Everyone else uses Meta.

Computer Science majors are expecting not to get jobs because of AI. Software engineers are either losing or hating their jobs because of AI. Mathematicians are retiring early because of AI. These people aren't usually an anti-technology crowd, but they aren't thrilled today.
