Major career news: I’ve been selected as a CRN Discovery Fellow by @asapresearch.parkinsonsroadmap.org! 🚀 The fellowship funds independently led, collaborative projects in #ParkinsonsDisease, meaning I get the opportunity to continue researching the role of #TransposableElements in #ageing and PD!

Thrilled to share our story in its final form! nature.com/articles/s41... 💥 After ~10 years, we show that BMAL1 represses transposons via chromatin regulation in embryonic stem cells—rather than circadian rhythms as in adult tissues.

In this paper, CRN Team @jacksonlab.bsky.social found that LINE-1 transposable elements contribute to the complexity of the transcriptome in human pluripotent stem cells by acting as alternative promoters for approximately 100 genes. Check out the full #preprint: shorturl.at/TJ9BK

Tracking transposable element (TE) activity in genomics data can be a pain, but there are solutions! Our lab built TEtranscripts -- which we've updated to work for small RNAs (TEsmall), bulk RNA at the locus level (TElocal), and in single-cell data (TEsingle). Check it out! www.mghlab.org/software
