Sometimes a book you read as a teenager traumatises you and then 20 years later you whump your blorbo with it

Stede looked at his arm, trapped between the boulder and the canyon wall. Well and truly wedged in. He couldn't even feel it, which was probably a blessing. He thought about the fact he didn't tell anyone where he was going, other than he was going to check out the national park. No one knew which canyon he was in, or when to expect him home. So utterly stupid. He wasn't a canyoneer, he was an idiot!

Stede inventoried his belongings. Water, check. Rope, check. Multi-tool penknife, check. Camera, check. Spare battery, check. Phone, check. Phone signal? Nothing. Not surprising considering he was in a slot canyon with twenty meter high walls. Food? Check.

Well, water and food to last him the day, anyway. He hadn't exactly prepared to become completely and utterly stuck with no hope of escape.

We are a group of queer artists, and we are in big trouble.
In April 2025, we immigrated to France, seeking a safe place to live and make art.
Our humanitarian visas expired a year ago.
Since then, we have been trying to get legal status in France.
To be able to work, open a bank account, get health insurance and just have some basic human rights.
We spent a whole year fighting for our lives against Strasbourg Prefecture and we lost.

All this time we couldn't properly work, so we were burning our savings.
In August, all three of us were denied a residence permit.
According to the Prefecture, the only option for us To stay legally in France is to become asylum seekers.
About a week ago, we sent out our applications for the asylum.
Now we are looking at another indefinite stretch of time, before we are summoned to Paris for interviews.
It might be two months, three months, half of a year or even more... no one knows for sure.

We had planned for a year without documents max, and now it's been a year and a half already.
No matter how hard we tried to stretch our savings, they have run out.
Currently, we don't have enough money to pay for rent and food in November.
It's hard for me to admit that, but we are in huge trouble, with all our hopes and plans ruined by the French bureaucracy.
We really need your help and every little bit matters, so I came up with some options for how you can support us.

Jeff the Affable Stewart definitely isn't Blackbeard, notorious Alpha Pirate Captain in disguise, getting intel on all the high-class passengers onboard. Certainly not! And he certainly doesn't have a thing for his fellow crew mate Thomas, the out-of-his-depth but enthusiastic omega working down in towels.

Whatever is or isn't happening on the ship, Ed will have to figure it out fast. Ed's time on the Dawn Star is running out, with Sky Fleet soldiers searching for a fugitive at the behest of an angry lord, his own first mate demanding he gets found out, and Thomas himself, hiding a secret that threatens to drag them all under.

The main reason it didn't get people to cinemas in the UK is that it doesn't release until just under 3 weeks from now. It not being out in a lot of places definitely isn't helping its international box office plus by the time it releases conversation will have moved on hurting it's performance more
