Peace in Northern Ireland is brittle. It needs nurturing, not the Parades Commission’s recklessness and ineptitude over Drumcree

Northern Ireland’s Peace Is Under Threat Again
The last time I was in Drumcree, the Northern Ireland tinderbox where Catholic residents are engaged in a standoff with Orange Order marchers, I was hit on the leg by a golf ball. It was launched at me by rioters as the police blocked unionists from parading down the Garvaghy Road, a pro-Irish nationalist enclave of largely Protestant Portadown.

Portadown OO lads shouldn’t be out in this inclement weather. We don’t want them getting pneumonia!! They can now walk indoors to their hearts content with this wonderful service.

The PSNI & the Parades Commission have serious questions to answer, BUT the fact is that the Portadown Orange Lodge has spent the last 28 years with their balls in a bundle over being told to show some decency & go 6 minutes out of their way. A *28 YEAR long* temper tantrum. That's some entitlement

Screeching about SF law breaking, some context nobody is supplying. The College of Policing's own guidance says a breach of the notification requirement under the 1998 Act does not render a procession or protest unlawful, & does not put an otherwise peaceful assembly outside Article 11 protection.
