The state broadcaster, Nolan, in going too far to make “someone else’s” point, imputes one act of supposed open disobedience by O’Neill and Carroll with “anarchism” and end of respect for all authority tout court. And the justification for that is what exactly? Do we live in Russia?

A wild week but craziest to think by the end of today we’re going to maybe have to credit Bryson for a positive contribution to reconciliation after a life of puerile nihilism.

The contention that anyone is “bound to respect the courts” is a strategic posture. The law is saturated with ambiguity. It isn’t clear that the residents have lost the right to protest, and the ineptitude of the PC could be put to bed by the police & SOS. www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/comment/as-t...

Very odd comment, now deleted, as the Garvaghy road residents are of a Christian background too, and as it happens, Catholic tradition has disobedience to unjust law as a fully orthodox part of its theology.

Charging nationalists with not “having a commitment to the law” is propaganda. Moralising flim flam of a dog whistle to disguise annoyance that they are not submitting to the bullying source of this crisis like the Parade Commission did.

In 2025, politicians from the DUP, TUV and UUP complained publicly and in the former two cases made frivolous police reports about a drag queen posing for one photo outside a church in Omagh. Cultural sensitivity for thee, but not for me.

The precipitating cause is the sheer pettiness of what the DUP wants to accomplish for this place. The electoral culture war cannon was first fired with Parachute Regiment tweet, supporting lying mass murderers, and have been dead set on manoeuvring the Executive into a collapse ever since.

If this reveals anything, it has to be the shallow regard Unionist politicians still have for their neighbours, as little more than atavists. Such as the “orange in the flag” taunt. As if there is no distinguishing between that and the sect formed over a century later from the Williamite settlement.

The main example of Orwellian crimethink that I know of today. Not that Israel is an international criminal - that’s normal person opinion - but that it is a deliberate consequence of the US and their foreign policy vassals in Europe to strategically support its project of ethnic expansionism.

The unfolding events in Israel and Palestine are deeply alarming.
We need an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation to prevent any further loss of life.
And we need a route out of this tragic cycle of violence: ending the occupation is the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace.

Netanyahu has apparently told the population of Gaza to evacuate as they plan to flatten the place. Since there is nowhere for people to go this is a genocidal statement. Or if they let people leave then it is ethnic cleansing on the grand scale.

It has to be bothersome to be reminded of the one English politician who refused to reserve his views on this place to a private opinion. That’s the problem with the governance of this state: everything is just “a job”, disconnected from the honest defence of any conviction.

Owl of Athena! 🦉❤️ The goddess’s sacred bird with helmet and weapons transformed into a tiny armed warrior! Red-figure ceramic vessel made in Athens around 2,400 years ago! 📷 Louvre Museum, Paris collections.louvre.fr/en/ark:/5335... #Archaeology
The Louvre image shows an ancient Athenian ceramic vessel decorated with an orangey-red coloured owl with weapons and helmet against a glossy black slip background. The owl’s details are defined in black. The owl stands facing right, with body in profile and head tilted slightly forwards and turned full-face towards the viewer. It has large circular eyes outlined in black, a small pointed v-shaped beak, and dense plumage represented by dots on the head, and rows of short black lines and dots on the broad wing at its side. It wears a helmet and has a human-like right arm holding a long spear horizontally at its side, and on the other side, at right, is a large round shield. The figure appears quite comic and endearing, at least to the modern eye.

The Louvre describes the vessel as an ‘oinochoe’, that is a wine jug with a single handle (looks like a cup to me!). The handle is not seen in the image. Dimensions: Height: 6.4 cm, Diameter 6 cm. Dated 425-375 BC. The vessel is displayed on a small black museum plinth against a light grey background.

Owl imagery on red-figure ceramic cups and jugs was extremely popular some 2,500 years ago and they were produced in large quantities in pottery workshops in Athens and beyond.

I can’t see how anyone can see a Garvaghy parade justified while at the same time being honest. If one party only has the choice of being there, then the superior right obviously falls to those who aren’t making the choice. But Unionism again mistake being seen to do something with an effective move
