With all of the Starbucks locations closing, the only places you can get espresso in Uptown these days are Caffe Ladro, Orange Goose Coffee, Nielsen's, Sugar Bakery, Caffe Zingaro, Caffe Vita, the Grounds Keeper, Ceres Roasting, Konvene Coffee, Cafe Hagen, Citizen Collective, Turtle Coffee...

My neighbor Avi owned Salon Image and it's nice to see her spot getting filled. Her husband Davinder ran Roti around the corner and they both retired about the same time. #SeattleIsRetiring

Back from our book tour week in London and, man, after spending time in a place that’s made so much progress as far as streets and transportation go, it’s always a shock to come home. New York just smacks you in the face with the sheer volume of cars everywhere.

I seem to recall my friend Laura Laker say there was a change that gave pedestrians right of way at side road junctions but UK traffic law confuses me with all the shoulds and musts so it’s possible I misinterpreted.

I would, however, like a prominent public information campaign urging drivers to give way to pedestrians at side road intersections. The give way markings, in practice, seem only to apply to other drivers.

The Norton Building (1959), Seattle's first glass curtain wall building, was reglazed while I worked there (2000) but it was mainly for better energy performance. (The west side got insanely hot on summer afternoons.)

Tomorrow is an opportunity for budget testimony at Seattle City Council - last few Mayors over promised with one time budget items but this administration is trying something different. They actually don’t want to push off things to future. Some Council want reelection not fiscal responsibility.
