Last week we talked to a bunch of neighbors and heard their great ideas for what they want out of us. We are hearing that they want People-oriented places, Accessible sidewalks, more events/activities, and improving the loading/parking chaos. Read here: destinationpike.com/ideas-from-a...
Two pages of sticky notes both answering the question “Why do you love these streets?” With answers like “the people” or “madness” or “so much to look at”

Happy that so many people are talking about removing vehicles from our public streets & giving more space to people. @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social asks the follow-up question, "Are Pedestrian Streets Actually Good for Business?" h/t @uoftcities.bsky.social @canurb.bsky.social youtu.be/bC1OChn33aY?...

New York has a similar problem with trash to Pike/Pike. Maybe we can learn from how this works there 👀

I think i can find some similarities between the businesses of Pike-Pine and Granville Street 😊 #DavesHotChicken Pedestrianization has been great for business at local thrift and vintage shops too

What do you get when you combine 30 markers and two dozen community members? What we found was lively conversation, thoughtful sharing of perspectives, and the ability to find common ground about the future of Destination Pike. Read the whole newsletter here: destinationpike.com/nice-to-meet...
We believe … is that the current sidewalks are being asked to do too much in the current space because there is a desire to use a finite amount of space that results in bottled-necks and accessibility issues

We’ve been listening to the neighborhood. And we keep hearing the same things… our sidewalks are too narrow❗️ Especially when you add the garbage, bike parking, and seating to the equation! We need more space for people 🚶#destinationpike #publicspace #peoplespace

One lesson from the World Cup I think that Seattle neighborhoods would be smart to heed is that refusing to pedestrianize spaces at the heart of neighborhoods meant that people didn’t stop, stay, and spend time there… they just drove on through to places where pedestrians were prioritized.
