This is horrifying. We cannot let this happen.

Really disappointed with the Portland DSA’s stance on this entire situation. The term sheet is not even close to the “worst deal ever” and these hyperbolic statements only make them look stupid. For example, where is Paycom Center and the $850M in public money? Seems intentional.

For the record, @councilordunphy.bsky.social has done an A+ job on getting this Moda deal to the finish line, even if it means voting against amendments from the progressives on council. Feels like some councilors still don’t understand what’s at stake here.

I am BEGGING the state of Oregon to realize that funding TriMet helps downtown recovery. It’s not just transit bringing folks to downtown, it’s also the fact that union TriMet employees make decent wages and those dollars get directly put back into small businesses in our city.

The "Save Lloyd Center" thing is the most hopeless of hopeless possible causes. There is no possible world in which anyone steps in to save an enormous, decaying, mostly vacant mall. I'm not even mad at them because they won't succeed, it's mostly just sad

The ‘Save Lloyd’ campaign is, sadly, doomed to fail. The current version of the mall is simply economically unsustainable. Whether or not the new master plan will work is up for debate, but removing the 8,000+ wasted parking spaces on a transit hub will be a MASSIVE win.

I-5 southbound at the Moda Center will be closed for over a month. In my view, this is a test run for when we get rid of I-5 in the inner eastside altogether. That won't happen without generational investment in transit and years of work... but it DEFINITELY won't happen if we don't talk about it.
Text on a cream background with a "Mullen for Portland" logo at the top, "mullen4pdx.com" at the bottom, and the following text:

"Closing I-5 May Be the Future

I-5 southbound at the Moda Center will be closed for over a month.

We should make this permanent.

Portland’s future won’t be defined by interstates. Our vision: remove
I-5 in the inner eastside, cap I-405, and accept the tradeoff of longer car commutes for reconnected neighborhoods, transit, and acres of developable land in our urban core.

In 2026 Portland Oregon you are much more likely to be killed by a vehicle than murdered but Portland Police keep letting drivers off without holding them responsible. A driver who breaks traffic laws and hits pedestrians or a bicycle rider needs to be held responsible. This is not controversial.

Friendly reminder that the #1 reason for Portland’s budget deficit is Trump’s One Beautiful Bill which significantly slashed federal aid and revenue sharing. Reason #2 is cost increases largely from tariffs/inflation. Even if our local economy was booming, we’d still have a budget gap.

Sorry but expecting city councilors to do their homework is the bare minimum. What’s especially funny about this interaction is that @trryjhrrs.bsky.social’s bluesky is evidence of how easy it is to track legislation at city hall. If Terry can do it, why can’t a city councilor??? Disappointing.

The Portland city council meeting was pretty depressing today. Just hour after hour of mudslinging and accusations. Electing the council president could’ve brought council together, but instead it appears more divided than ever. Not a good first meeting for the new city administrator.

The persistent belief that a previous version of Portland was perfect feeds the idea that our best days are behind us. It's inherently conservative, a nostalgic obsession that's little more than a Make Portland Great Again philosophy. We've gotta define a compelling vision of the future.

I cannot emphasize enough that affordability has to be our number one focus right now. The number one driver of people living on our streets is the fact that they can't make rent - they can't keep up with the fact that almost everything is more expensive right now.
