I spent the last 10 years of my career working in React, and I wouldn't trade those years, but it's hard not to feel a bit like I'm in a bit of an unintentionally toxic relationship.

Here’s what I said to our teenager and some other young folks who were around at the match: there’s a difference between a demonstration and a protest, and you need both because people are at different places in their engagement with a movement, and there are different kinds of power.

You will never be able to make "data driven" decisions until you realize just how much your decisions are driven by emotions: fear of missing out, defensiveness of your favorite idea, apprehension over something unusual. That's because there's no such thing as "the data" - only interpretations.

🌠 The linear() timing function allows us to embed lush spring physics inside vanilla CSS. It’s one of my favourite modern features. But: providing a fallback for older browsers has been pretty painful. I just discovered a lovely pattern for this. ✨ Here’s the code. Description in thread. 🧵
Screenshot of code:

html {
  --spring: ease-out;

  @supports (animation: linear(1, 2 3%)) {
    --spring: linear(/* cool spring physics here */);
  }
}

.some-element {
  animation: someKeyframeAnimation 1000ms var(--spring);
}

.some-other-element {
  transition: transform 1000ms var(--spring);
}

Many in tech value brutal honesty, but people often focus more on the brutality than the honesty, making them defensive. Instead, aim to be “direct yet kind.” Start with curiosity and a desire to help before offering criticism. When others see empathy in your words, your feedback is more effective.
