Bumper sticker that reads "My Other Ballot Box is a Guillotine". On the left is a box in American flag colors with a sealed ballot going in to it. On the right is a guillotine with a sharp blade that has a smile superimposed on it. The background of the image is green with assorted white stars and dots in a whimsical structure.

These kinds of laws have an invisible ripple effect across the country. A good number of corporations will just change their policies instead of making a NYC-specific protocol. A lot of the consumer protections we have started in one state or big city.

So this sea change we see with more normie Dems losing to progressive candidates - it’s scary in the sense that we don’t know if they can win in Nov, but there has got to be a generational shift. There is no going back. There is only trying something different… electing bold fighters with urgency!

I can’t bring myself to be too celebratory. This should have been a 9-0 slam dunk. My main takeaway is that there are currently 4 votes to undo a longstanding constitutional guarantee that 15 years ago seemed beyond any serious question.

Here is the regulation DOJ, Texas, and O’Connor just colluded in erasing. I see no reason they can’t run this playbook to ignore the APA more frequently, simply wiping any unwanted regulations off the books. I am NOT enough of an expert in civil procedure to know if intervention is still possible.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the shifting baseline concept as applied to everyday life. People in their 20’s now have no memory of highly functional systems, products (from blenders to sweaters) that were so well made you could hand them down across generations, or even helpful customer service.

This framing continues to miss the point. It’s not the former Confederacy. That wasn’t some breakaway aberration. It was the remnant of the First Republic, the government of the Founders. Stop treading the enslavers as a rupture. They were a continuity.

Trump is putting no effort into becoming less unpopular but a TON into putting elements of a coup in place. Some of them may remain invisible, but the ones we can see point to his general approach: violent intimidation + corrupt judges + executive branch and congressional coconspirators + bribes.

Reminder: THERE IS NO SETTLEMENT. There can't be a settlement because Trump voluntarily dismissed the case before any notice of settlement was filed. No lawsuit, no settlement. Any news article that refers to a "settlement" is not telling the truth.

It’s VERY IMPORTANT that corporate media NOT frame this as a judicial settlement. Trump DROPPED the suit this morning. There is no lawsuit, and therefore, no settlement. you can’t settle a suit that doesn’t exist. This is just pure theft.
