1–After 27 years on death row, Jimmie Duncan’s murder conviction was overturned in June by the Louisiana Supreme Court. But while Duncan is grateful to no longer be confined to the tiny cell at Angola prison, I learned that he is still not truly free. THREAD:

He spent 27 years on death row as a wrongfully convicted man. What comes next? Solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. 115-degree heat. Jimmie Duncan is haunted by the decades he spent on death row in Angola prison — and how, even after being released, he still isn’t truly free.

This actually happened to me once before. Years ago, I had subscribed to the Saturday-Sunday NYT package. I never got the Saturday paper. The NYT must have been using a different delivery contractor than the TP at the time because I was getting that every day. 1/2

I think that there are now so few hard-copy newspaper subscribers where I live that the delivery service is losing money coming to my house and has just decided not to do it anymore. I’m still getting the Sunday paper, but I fear its days are numbered.

Recent conversation. “My mother has always been a ‘busy’ sleeper.” “Like how?” “She was a sleepwalker as a kid. Apparently she still tosses and turns, and she carries on full conversations. I guess I’m lucky she didn’t pass this on.” “You loudly said ‘f___ you’ in your sleep last night.”

I was just driving home with a cop behind me. I was carefully maintaining the speed limit, then the cop started tailgating me. (No lights. My guess was it was a take-home car and he was taking it home.) Didn’t know how to respond to that. I ultimately sped up, and he seemed satisfied.
