Very funny how Wes Streeting’s statement that the local farmer only had a “partial picture” read like “the intelligence services were all over this plot already” and could now be anything from that to “oh wow you’ll never guess what they found in the vans and I really wish I could tell you”.

Someone’s just shared pretendy working-class hero Bonny Prince Bob‘s latest Instagram contribution on Edinburgh trams. The lack of any factual basis in any of the populist claims is astounding.

If you live anywhere near Ayr, it would be a great time to write to your councillor in support of cycle lanes. They are reading Facebook and deciding the posters there should set transport policy.

An insight into cycling trends - the introduction of Voi bikes has added about 500 additional cyclists per day to Leith Walk; the tram closure added another 250 at the peak. The Voi effect is much larger at the weekend, while the inverse is true for the tram.

A snap going the other way (into town) this morning. I was about midway in the queue, with about as many people behind me. This was around 8.45am, so some time after the *actual* peak, which seems to be around 8.15am.
My view from the middle of a queue of cycle traffic, waiting to cross at traffic lights on the South City Way cycle route in the south of Glasgow, around 8.45am this morning. The city centre is up ahead.

There's something amazing about being in a peloton of 40+ bikes on the cycle lane heading home. Every driver at the front of a queue of side-street traffic... every person peering out of a bus window... every passer-by gets the message: "Oh wow, yeah, people are using this stuff". Never gets old.
My view travelling home by bike: Loads of people cycling on the South City Way cycle lane on Victoria Road in Govanhill in the Southside of Glasgow, during evening rush hour. A woman in front of me wears an incredibly fetching gold coloured helmet.

Parents representing 5 schools requested that the filters which had been on the Greenbank to Meadows Quiet Route for 5 years, and had contributed to a significant reduction in traffic, remain in place but the Council removed them due to errors in the documentation. Now the speeding drivers are back.

My favourite recent example of Edinburgh NIMBYism was the residents in Corstorphine who demanded and got school street restrictions on their own road (Manse St) then a few years later objected to similar restrictions on neighbouring Manse Road because it would inconvenience them.

*Every* school should have all through roads festooned with Zebra and Puffin crossings and every side street made a school street. No consultation, no debate, just implemented. And yes, inconveniencing and slowing down traffic is *THE WHOLE POINT*. It shouldn't be controversial or difficult.

The council has these things down to a fine art. Yes you *could* have some basic road safety measures outside a school, but it's going to take you a huge amount of effort and your kids will almost be finished by the time a spade hits the ground, so are you sure you want to really bother?

Cowcaddens Road was a four lane road - it now looks and feels like a street. So many parts of Edinburgh have similar urban dual carriageways that could have the same treatment: making the city safer, greener, quieter and less congested. #StreetsNOTroads
