No one is going to decide to quit a job making $2k a month to sit around and do nothing at home for $500, which is what a lot of these "basic income" schemes are. They are instead going to have more of a cushion to pay for, like, food and heating bills instead of stressing and starving

We keep being told the only two positions on LLMs are basically “this does nothing, it’s all waste” and “this does anything you can imagine, or will very soon, so make choices today based on that assumption.” Except both of those are wrong, and distracting from the real capabilities and problems.

I think frankly all of this speaks to the really unserious way that Americans generally but the current GOP in particular think about armed conflict, as if it is against the rules for the other side to fight back. It is not. Which is one reason (of many) why maybe we should do less war.
