A reminder from nature to pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us while seeking a perfect balance in life... like this gorgeous male Southern Hawker! 💙🫶📷 Happy Monday everyone. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead. 🕊️🌿 #MacroMonday #Nature #Invert #Dragonflies #UKWildlife #ECK
A close-up photograph of a vibrant male Southern Hawker dragonfly (Aeshna cyanea) resting vertically on a stalk of purple toadflax flowers.
The dragonfly is positioned head-up, with his long, segmented abdomen extending straight down the flower stem. His thorax is a bright apple-green color, accented by two prominent yellow-green oval patches on top. His abdomen features a pattern of dark brown, black, and bright green spots, transitioning into vivid blue segments at the very tip of his tail. The Southern Hawker has large, shiny compound eyes separated by a bright golden patch on the top of his head. Four translucent, glassy wings are spread fully open and flat to the sides, revealing an incredibly dense, delicate, dark-veined net pattern across their entire surface. The background is completely out of focus, filled with a soft, bright green and yellow bokeh effect created by sunlight filtering through garden foliage.

In dark brown capital letters on a light yellow background, a quote by Emily McDowell: “Finding yourself” is not really how it works. You aren’t a ten-dollar bill in last winter’s coat pocket. You are also not lost. Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people’s opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are. “Finding yourself” is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you.

#31DaysofGraves Day 4 Entrance L is for Lychgate, a wonderful illustration by @landisblair.bsky.social for A is for Arsenic: An ABC of Victorian Death, available worldwide. Lychgate: A gate between the land of the living and the dead, marking the boundary between consecrated and unconsecrated soil.
Black and white drawing of a roofed structure with open gates where a wheeled bier and hatted mourners stand. A veiled woman stands at the entrance of the gate. A church tower stands in the background and there are trees and a fence next to the roofed structure--a lychgate, because monuments in a cemetery can be seen in the background.

🧵The iconic limestone pavements of Yorkshire, famously found around Malham Cove and Ingleborough, are spectacular post-glacial landscapes. Formed and exposed by the last Ice Age, these flat expanses of Carboniferous limestone feature blocks known as ‘clints’, separated by deep fissures
Twisleton Scar’s hawthorn trees are among the most photographed and recognisable natural landmarks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Rather than being a single tree with a documented historical story or human-planted heritage, these hardy hawthorns are celebrated for their resilience, distinctive appearance and close connection to the ancient landscape. Their story is inseparable from the rugged limestone pavements of Twisleton Scar. Growing from thin soils between the limestone, the trees have endured centuries of harsh weather, strong winds and exposed conditions. Their twisted forms and weather-beaten branches are a reminder of nature’s ability to survive in challenging environments, making them an iconic symbol of the Yorkshire Dales.
