Goodnight from Davey Smith, excited by the air being thick with bonefire incense sending smoke-wraith prayers to boundary gods. Goodnight from the midnight sisters of Bramble Street, sharing cigarettes, gossip and protective charms against the wounds of the night. Goodnight from Hookland.

The Icelandic word for psychologist is "sálfræðingur". It literally means "soul expert". For short we call them "sáli" or "soulie".

Well, happy Charles Darwin is “very poorly today & very stupid & hate[s] everybody & everything” to all who celebrate, because he wrote those words in a letter to his friend (and author of Principles of Geology) Charles Lyell 161 years ago today

Another day spent fruitlessly searching for the Black Library in Weychester Cathedral. Another dozen subterranean rooms visited, but no new clues. It remains firmly occulted. Remains legendary, an engine of the imagination. – #MattAdams

I'm sad today from the news that my cousin Johnny died last night from lung cancer in Salisbury, I'm afraid from addiction issues. Between the ages of five and ten we were friends and allies in all that golden summer of boyhood, and had many adventures roving hills and woods and fields of wheat 🌾🌞🤺

It's the Feast of St Michael and all Angels. The date of the old hiring fairs in The Isle of Wight and Dorset. And my late father's birthday: he farmed at Bowcombe, Presford and Billingham. I miss him.

R for Resurrection Men--one of the entries in A is for Arsenic: An ABC of Victorian Death, covering the basics of Victorian mourning & deathlore. Fab illustrations by @landisblair.bsky.social Available worldwide Corpses gone off were shipped to medical schools in barrels labeled pork or fish.
Black and white drawing of two men in suits, one in a bowler, one in a top hat, standing above an open grave in a graveyard crowded with tombstones. They hold ropes and are dragging the body of a woman in shroud and cap out of the grave by a rope round her neck. A lantern at the left gives light. A spade stands against a tombstone on a pile of dirt and another lies on the ground.

Can't really be at the Science Museum and not spend a quiet moment with the Rolls Royce WWII engine designed by a team which included my grandfather, Geoffrey Morris. Wish I'd met him. Believe he was Operation Paperclip after the war.

Even inland, the salt-hag is tide-pulled. Gulls call her to come to shore and see the wave-polished augeries on display. Sea-seasoned winds make promises of things to be summoned at the slack. She walks to her secret cove. Her first glimpse of sea an intoxication. – #EmilyCBanting #WitchSky
