Keep thinking about US streaming a firing squad. I can articulate every argument against the death penalty. I can talk about grotesqueness of live streaming it. I can highlight the similarities with the Taliban/ISIS etc. The most sickening thing I can never overcome is that millions will watch it.

It's so tedious having to listen to people say "if you don't Labour then our lives will be worse off" and then listing a handful of policies which make them feel better, while ignoring the far more substantial number of Labour policies which strip rights and make life worse for vulnerable groups. 4/

I think once black clad men are interfering with rescues at sea, we are past "legitimate concerns". Once they're attacking boats, and risking the lives of everyone on board, it's just thuggery. The Home Secretary's statement is on the side of criminals. There's no other way to read it.

This is attempted murder and we should run the clock on how long it will take to bring those charges. We should also start pressing for the use of the terrorism act since, you know, it’s otherwise used. Keep in mind those actions were both announced and coordinated, as well as externally financed.

For some it’s a lifeline. For others (like me), it’s guidance. For others, it’s the availability of options. Refusing a diagnosis is a violation of the right to health - ADHD remains a disability, with all the personal and societal consequences it holds. This is not just appalling - it’s dangerous

On 13 September, an MSF bus carrying 10 humanitarian staff in Gaza City was damaged by an Israeli airstrike on a targeted vehicle just two metres away. One of our colleagues was injured in the strike.
The bus was clearly identified as an MSF vehicle, with a large MSF sticker visible on its roof. Once again, Israeli forces have shown a blatant disregard for the safety of humanitarian and medical personnel.
Nowhere is safe in Gaza. Civilians, healthcare workers and humanitarian staff must be protected. Clearly marked medical and humanitarian vehicles must be spared from attacks.

I’m on Opinion newsletter duty this morning and I wanted to start with a few words on The Telegraph’s toxic “How having a disability became cool” article.
Back in 2024, I wrote about “sickfluencers” – a rightwing moniker for disabled people who use social media to help others apply for benefits. Recently, I’ve noticed the term has expanded to include women who commit the crime of … using a mobility aid in public. This week, the Telegraph ran a piece claiming young women are “turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend”, including by not working. The headline? “How having a disability became cool.”

It’s hard to think of a nastier narrative. You can say that the writers and editors publishing this stuff are just ignorant of disability, but I struggle to believe it. It feels like wilful ignorance: repeating tropes that fuel an agenda casting doubt on disabled people and the state’s duty to support us if we need it.Readers who use mobility aids often tell me about the impact of seeing these stories spread online; a growing sense of shame that eats at the stomach until one day, they put their cane back in the cupboard and walk to Tesco in pain. Or they don’t go out at all. Someone should be ashamed in all of this, sure, but it’s not disabled readers.
