If we are so fortunate as to have a blue wave, it's vital not to overread the mandate as MAGA have. Voters are being really clear here: If Dems spend more time on wonky "reconstruction" than on healthcare, jobs, and affordability, they will have a 2030 that makes 2006 look like 2022.

Something everyone really needs to prepare themselves for is that the best way to achieve all of this stuff is incredibly quietly - basically through Secret Congress. If Dems are fortunate enough to have a trifecta after 2028, voters will destroy them in 2030 if they publicly focus on this stuff.

Congress established the War Department at the cabinet level, Aug. 7, 1789. In 1947, the Navy and War departments and the newly independent Air Force merged to become the National Military Establishment. Two years later, in 1949, the name was changed to Department of Defense and then-Defense Secretary Louis Johnson authorized the first design and use of a seal for the department. The seal was updated in September 2025 to reflect the use of a secondary title, Department of War, as directed in Executive Order 14347.

The design of the original seal and its symbolism is described in Appendix VI Joint Army and Air Force Bulletin No. 23:

"An American eagle is displayed facing to the right. Wings are horizontal. The eagle grasps three crossed arrows and bears on its breast a shield whose lower two-thirds carries alternating white and red stripes and whose upper third is blue. Above the eagle is an arc of thirteen stars with alternating rays. Below the eagle is a wreath of laurel extending to the eagle's right and wreath of olive extending to the eagle's left. On an encircling band is the inscription 'Department of Defense' and 'United States of America.'

The American bald eagle, long associated with symbolism representing the United States of America and its military establishment, has been selected as an emblem of strength. In facing to the right, the field of honor is indicated. The eagle is defending the United States, represented by the Shield of thirteen pieces. The thirteen pieces are joined together by the blue chief, representing the Congress. The rays and stars above the eagle signify glory, while the three arrows are collectively symbolic of the three component parts of the Department of War. The laurel stands for honors received in combat defending the peace represented by the olive branch.

When the seal is displayed in color, the background is to be of medium blue with the eagle and wreath in natural colors and the arrows, stars, and rays of gold.

This is exactly my position on capital punishment. I’m not opposed to it in theory; I do believe that there are crimes severe enough to merit the death penalty. However so long as there is even the tiniest chance that a person has been wrongfully convicted, capital punishment is unconscionable.
