We discussed this subject this morning as well, with some figures of actually how busy it is - but just with pedestrians and cyclists instead of vehicles. We have a sensor there showing over 12,000 commutes daily over the bridge. Not closed at all telraam.net/en/location/...
Bar chart showing daily total traffic counts for pedestrians and cyclists on Castelnau, south of Hammersmith Bridge. The total of these categories alone is 12,000 on average per dayGraph of average volume of users of Castelnau, just south of Hammersmith Bridge per hour of the day. The peaks at 8am and 5pm show that this is an active commuting route, not simply used by local residents, but a route for users across South and West London

In London we have Labour MPs standing up in the House of Commons and knowingly spreading falsehoods about motor traffic increasing and cycling decreasing since the closure of Hammersmith Bridge to motor vehicles. The conspiracy runs deep and it will take a generation to shift the mindset.

The closure of Hammersmith Bridge to motor vehicles has created much safer conditions for walking and cycling across a huge area of Hammersmith and Barnes and resulted in fewer vehicles on all West London bridges including Putney and Chiswick. Keep it closed to cars forever.

At the Kew Bridge rain garden with the Chiswick Riverside Conservative team.

Residents have repeatedly raised concerns after vehicles have been seen driving over or clipping the edge of the rain garden when turning. And right now, the "rain garden" itself is an unplanted mess of mud and weeds.

If cars are driving over it, and it looks neglected anyway, what exactly is this scheme achieving?

The Council says the design is fine and blames driver behaviour. We think residents deserve a proper review and a public space that doesn't look abandoned.

Great to see my old friend @johnjohnstewart.bsky.social making the case for Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) to support local active travel journeys in yesterday’s Times www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...
Screenshot of oped:
“A policy focused on shorter trips, almost certainly made by a more diverse demographic, would have a different emphasis: much less cycling on "main" roads; the creation of cycle-friendly side streets; the development of safe routes to school; the provision of more secure cycle storage facilities, particularly in low-income areas; and an emphasis on junctions — according to Transport for London research in 2023, 84 per cent of cycle casualties occur at junctions.”JOHN STEWART
