I do sometimes wonder if the political history of this period, when written, will mainly conclude: “Many people lost their way simply by spending too long on X.”

Do you live in Richmond-upon-Thames? Do you have crayons? Do you like drawing lines on maps? Great! LB RuT is spending autumn'26 to autumn'27 drafting up yet-another-walking-and-cycling-strategy! Papers to Transport Ctte 7/9/26: cabnet.richmond.gov.uk/ieListDocume...
Deliver a phased walking network
3.12 While most streets in the Richmond can be easily travelled on foot,
some roads can be loud and unpleasant to spend time on, some roads
are difficult to cross and pavements can be cracked and uneven,
making them difficult to traverse for many. The consultation will focus
on identifying local priorities for creating safe and pleasant walking
routes, including meeting the needs of people with disabilities. It is
proposed that this will build upon the pedestrian pilot scheme and
focus on connectivity to and between town centres, green spaces and
schools, and will include improvements to surfaces, crossings,
accessibility, seating and shade.
Deliver a phased cycling network
3.13 The Active Travel Strategy included a strategic cycle network and
several of the routes in the strategy have been realised. New routes
are needed to ensure neighbourhoods are connected to one another
as well as the core network. The consultation will focus on identifying
local priorities for further development of a safe cycling network. It is
proposed that this will be comprised of a combination of high-quality
routes on main roads and continuous routes on quieter roads.
Expand cycle parking provision
3.14 Safe and secure parking is a key part of enabling cycling journeys to
destinations, while a lack of safe cycle storage at home can also be a
barrier to taking up cycling. The recent introduction of dockless e-bike
rental schemes has changed the way many people view cycling as a
trip option across London and added additional complexity to providing
cycle parking for public use. The consultation will look for feedback on
providing the right balance of different types of cycle parking to make
best use of our cycle parking budgets.
Make walking and cycling the preferred choice of travel
3.15 Understanding local barriers to walking and cycling will help prioritise
the schemes that will most likely result in choosing active travel. This
will be a key aspect that…

Helmets are often misinterpreted as the solution to safety. Put simply, they aren't. Helmets protect your head from an uncontrolled fall. Proper infrastructure is what protects you from multi-ton vehicles. Don't conflate the two, they are worlds apart.

Guidance

Applying for a licence to explore the wreck of RMS Titanic
Published 11 August 2026

Introduction

The wreck of RMS Titanic is protected by international agreements.

Anyone wishing to explore or investigate the wreck must apply for a licence to do so.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is the licensing authority for UK nationals and UK-flagged vessels.

If you do not have a licence, it is against the law to:

* enter into the wreck of RMS Titanic
* remove artefacts from the wreck of RMS Titanic or from the surrounding debris field

This guidance explains what you need to do to apply for a licence.
