NOAA is now highlighting a large region of "Extremely Critical" fire weather conditions Fri near the heart of the severe-to-extreme drought region across interior West, w/expansion into Sat-Sun likely. While existing fires have quieted down today, that lull will be short-lived.
Map from NOAA SPC showing Friday's fire weather outlook. A large region of critical to "extremely critical"--the highest possible designation--is apparent across most of Utah and parts of Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado.

Nice reminder that the legacy of anthropogenic climate change could be LONG. Notice here temperatures still elevated by 3000 CE even in the optimistic scenario's. From this paper: eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A.... 🧪⚒️
Global mean temperature from 0 CE to 3000 CE (common era). A black line shows instrumental and proxy data around 0 oC spiking from 1850 to around 1.5 oC. The coloured lines show scenarios of future warming with red most pessimistic and green most optimistic. The red line peaks at 5 oC at 2200 CE and slowly declines toward 3000 CE. the green line peaks at 2 oC at 2050 CE and then declines and flatlines to about 1 oC warmer than pre-industrial. This shows that there impact of anthropogenic warming is long-term.
