During the championship final, the crowd filled the plaza and spilled into the closed street. We do not read that as a capacity failure. We read it as demand evidence. The U District needs more room for people, and it needs it at the station.

A local shop owner opposes our Main Street becoming a pedestrian destination, and that it should remain ‘grab and go’ by car. This same business sponsors an annual weekend street closure to attract patrons but somehow misses the similarity of purpose.

The Transportation Committee just voted 5-0 to put Shared Streets into the city code, and I couldn’t be happier to vote yes! This represents an amazing opportunity to make our streets safer by giving priority to people, not cars, and by allowing us to lower the speed limit to 10 MPH.
