I think given the scale @godotengine.org is now at, this is an incredibly incisive approach to combat generative AI's awful impact on people, code, and communication. Also focusing the ban policy on access & pull requests is a smart way of eliminating huge parts of the problem in a practical way.

My parents were low income so I often just browsed game shops as a kid. Sometimes mum let me get a game. It'd cost her whole day's wage and a chunk of our rent. Dad once told me to check under the car seat and Pokemon Red was there in a bag. Ownership isn't the only thing we lose with physical media

Infinity Blade’s disappearance is a perfect example of the damage done to mobile gaming. It was in the vanguard of mobile’s rise. For a time it was *the* showcase of a potential, valuable new outlet for the medium. For it to be washed away in a sea of RAID trash is downright perverse.

This is the real problem. Folk pirating Switch games and claiming it's for preservation are talking shit: Metroid Prime 4 will be just fine without 16-year-old Doug from Florida torrenting it. Preservation means making sure these games are still playable half a century from now.

9 years ago I ripped my Mario All-Stars promo VHS starring Craig Charles and uploaded a comically high bitrate 5.2GB version in its original 4:3 50Hz to the Internet Archive for preservation. Some dick claiming to be "Preserving Video Game History" has now squashed it to 16:9 and watermarked it.
