So, as one side of balance sheet (debt) increases the other side of balance sheet (assets) also increases. Any analysis of debt that does not recognise both sides of the balance sheet is basically useless. Here's how Stats NZ see it... Note the ~$200bn owed to the rest of the world. [7/n]

Everyone who pays attention knows that people in charge in Hawai’i are corrupt and incompetent. This story about how Governor Josh Green wants to import LNG instead of build out solar, which contradicts the state’s 100% renewable energy goal, perfectly exemplifies that corruption and incompetence.

Gov. Josh Green, a Democrat, wants to import LNG to slash energy bills. But the move might not lead to savings — and it could trip up the state’s climate…

Robert of Gloucester writing 200 years after the Norman conquest of England (modern translation). Interesting to consider given the current govs aversion to te reo Māori.
England came into the hands of Normandy. And at that time, the Normans could not
speak any language but their own. They spoke French at home and they taught French to
their children. As a result, all of the English nobles that descended from them now speak
the same French language that they inherited. And if a man cannot speak French, people
think very little of him. But the low men and commoners hold onto their native English. I
think there is no other country in the world where people hold onto their own language
like the people of England do. Because people know that is important to speak both
languages, for the more a man knows, the more worthy he is.

A few questions on the balance sheet stats I shared. I'll try a quick crash course 🧵 Start with an easy one... bank account balances and physical currency. The money in your bank account is your 'asset'. OK ✅ But your bank account balance is your bank's 'liability' (debt) - they owe it to you [1/n]
Graph showing financial assets and liabilities for 'currency and deposits' for different sectors. Th graph shows that registered banks (mostly) and RBNZ hold all the cash liabilities. Households and businesses hold the most cash / deposits assets.
