My friend @cpi.pinball.horse has a wonderful hobby of researching and restoring old pinball and arcade machines, some of which are 100 years old and move completely mechanically. It was honestly an incredible collection to behold.

I got my flu and COVID vaxes this afternoon. I was worried that I would be denied the latter but god bless the Kroger pharmacy, where they also offered me a pneumonia vaccine and a shingles vaccine "if you want to just take care of it all today."

I think it is sub optimal that the prevailing sense in baseball is that the best thing for the labor cause would be if the team famous for paying players generously would stop having success and, more broadly, to decouple the link between paying players and having success.

The change is that sports fans will be competing, not celebrities, and to that I say thank goodness. Buck is a very good host but nearly every episode I saw of this was excruciating, watching broadcast sports journalists totally flame out. (The best episode, weirdly: the one with only comic actors.)

This is how I always feel when my team plays in (and wins) the first playoff game of the day, and I get to watch three more games without feeling any stress about them.

But the part that I keep coming back to is that Schmitt apparently thought proving Smith was in Atlanta would somehow prove some cross-prosecutorial conspiracy. It is absolutely wild to me that two of today's four wild card games aren't on broadcast or cable (unless you have the revived NBCSN, which my cable system does not). Imagine rolling right from that thriller on NBC just now to the Astros/White Sox on USA or something. The way things used to be.
