Science peeps: Looks like SciENcv updated the digital certificate used to sign Biosketch and Current & Pending documents without notification. The old certificate expires Saturday, September 26, 2026. SciENcv docs before that date may fail validation in eRA Commons delaying or blocking submission.

Somehow started talking about veganism with a colleague and I was shocked at the disdain this educated person felt for a lifestyle choice that has no impact on them (and one I think is admirable). They actually thought veganism was bad and harmful which is ironic as it’s meant to reduce harm. (1/2)

Molecular biologist & geneticist Susan Lindquist (b. #OTD in 1949) was a pioneer in studying protein folding. Her research demonstrated protein folding errors contribute heavily to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's & Parkinson's diseases. National Medal of Science in 2010. #WomenInSTEM
This colorful portrait captures pioneering American molecular biologist and geneticist Dr. Susan Lindquist (June 5, 1949 – October 27, 2016), a National Medal of Science recipient who revolutionized our understanding of protein folding, prions, and heat-shock proteins. Facing the camera with a warm, confident smile, her short brown hair frames an engaging, intellectual expression. She wears a structured, dark green textured blazer over a striking, light blue silk scarf patterned with vibrant illustrations of sliced limes, lemons, oranges, and cherries, accented by elegant gold hoop earrings. She stands directly in front of a white dry-erase board covered in hand-drawn, multicolored biochemical pathways and pathways tracking "sterol biosynthesis," "Erg3," "Ergosterol," and "Mutations Azoles" from her famous research into evolutionary adaptations and antifungal resistance using yeast models. The tight composition and bright ambient lighting emphasize a deeply intellectual, creative, and historic mood, celebrating one of the most influential scientific minds of the modern era.

Adaptation of Enterococcus faecalis to intestinal mucus revealed by a human colonic organoid model | mSystems
Gut microbiota interactions with mucus during early intestinal colonization are critical for establishing stable communities and influencing host health. Using human colonic organoids combined with Tn-seq and live imaging, this study reveals how Enterococcus faecalis adapts to the mucosal surface by forming microcolonies and reprogramming its metabolism. This integrative approach provides a powerful platform to study other microbiota members in the native-like environment of the large intestine and evaluate potential therapeutic interventions.
