Agree that it’s a bit provocative, as the human data are really difficult for now. I don’t think the Mendelian Random studies’ absence of evidence (genetics) speaks against an enviroimental exposure effect: I think it’s a cascade from Pi intake - increased FGF23 - inflammation/adverse outcomes. 2/2

Why: Risk stratification. The human studies say so far that the association may be non-causal. If that is true and it’s non-causal (which most rodent data including our study argue against), then fasting Fgf23 might give a clue by how much cv risk should be tackled. 1/2
