NEW for @carbonbrief.org As El Niño intensifies, the forest fires ripping through Indonesia are on track to reach levels not seen since 2015. The country's 2015 fire season has been linked to 100,000 premature deaths and produced emissions on a par with the EU's fossil-fuel emissions that year.
Line chart showing cumulative daily fire emissions in Indonesia. The 2026 trajectory, highlighted in red, rises sharply to around 75MtC and is closely tracking the early path of 2015, shown in dark blue. In 2015, emissions later surged to about 330MtC, far above the 2000–26 average of roughly 85MtC. Other years are shown in light grey. Source: Global Fire Emissions Database.

Lies. It's 200 times when solar panels are "mentioned" in the fire report. e.g. “the fire did not reach the solar panel”

Reform spent £4,376,601 on campaigning last year, essentially flat on the general election year - but £8,944,096 on unexplained "office costs". No breakdown anywhere. Much smaller parties than Reform give detailed breakdowns of what went into those figures.
Office costs 2025 8,944,096 and 2024: 2,601,650
Campaign cost 2025 4,376,601 and 2024: 4,248,408

Cities dismantled their tram networks to become “motor cities of the future”. The result? You could travel further within 30 mins via public transport in 1957 than you can in 2026. Cities are seeking billions to rebuild networks. Incredible piece of work this.

A decade ago, analysts were calling Spain a cautionary tale. Too much solar, too fast! Today, Spain is rapidly on its way to having the cheapest power in Europe. Maybe this time, solar naysayers will learn... haha, jk, they'll just move the goalposts.

Spain just became one of Europe's cheapest power markets. Here is how.
How wind and solar quietly pushed gas off the margin, and the wholesale price followed.

What will the global fossil fuel market look like once the closure of the Hormuz ends? In short, volatile and risky but oversupplied - terrible for fossil fuel investors, less so for clean energy investors. The UAE's decision to leave OPEC reinforced this.

Is The Philippines about to be the next Pakistan of solar? There was 10GW of panels exported from China to The Philippines in the last 12 months... 10GW would generate 11% of total national consumption.. and quadruple the country's 2025 solar output🤯 So how real is this? 🧵

Analysis also shows that new fields licensed over the 14 years of Conservative government have produced just over a month’s worth of gas to date and have the potential to produce - in their lifetime - less than 6 months worth of UK gas demand. Not to mention--if you're worried about crises now... /5

It's mad that we'll once again try to tackle inflation (caused by fossil fuels increasing the price of energy) by raising interest rates, which will in turn make the real long-term solution (not fossil energy sources) more expensive in the short term. Monetary policy is homeopathy.

My global decarbonisation pathway, built on www.climatewedges.com

It deploys 20 wedges to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. An infographic showing the 36 strategies that can deliver at least a wedge of mitigation. It explains the scale of deployment each one needs, across the electricity, industry, buildings, transport, and land use sectors.

⚡ Not all electrification is equal ⚡ Lots of noise building around electrification, but what strategies give us the biggest impact? 🚗 Increasing elec by 1% of total demand & using this for EVs boosts global electrification rate by 1.2–1.7% 💻 Using that same elec for AI only gives you a 0.8% boost
A graphic which shows the relative impact of using additional clean electricity to power EVs (and displace existing fossil-powered cars), vs. using electricity to meet additional datacentre demand.
