Just a reminder that these Haitian immigrants in Springfield -- who came here legally, did everything they were asked to do and more -- became a target of federal crackdowns because the white nationalist vice president shamelessly spread racist lies about them.

As long as he’s aiming his invective at concepts associated with Black people he’s perfectly fine, once he strayed from anti-Black racism the mainstream press began to notice his bigotry.

Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

Literally looting and destroying the Kennedy center as a tantrum because he doesn’t get to put his name on it. I just cannot understand how you would see this behavior and think “yes, this person should be president of the United States.”

So he only noticed those kids because of the shade of their skin. Thus he likely won’t have noticed them at all if they were a few shades lighter. In other words, had they been white, his eyes and brain wouldn’t have registered them and concluded the kids were unassimilated. Ergo, he’s a racist.

One aspect of Hegseth is that he says things because he thinks they sound cool and make him look grand. His entire public posture is an outshoot of this ridiculous childishness. He thinks he’s in a movie. Grown man walking around with the brain of an 8 year old boy.

Today, "socialism" means the provision of public goods, while "capitalism" means that state coercively acquiring ownership of the means of production.

My greatest frustrating has been with policy wonks who persist in thinking we can just keep doing normal policy analysis ("calling balls and strikes") in this situation. The President of the United States is both lawless and out of his mind. That preempts all normal discussion.

The Satanic Verses is also really good, and despite the noise around it, is actually pretty funny too. I’d bet you’ve already read One Hundred Years of Solitude, but if not, it’s the height of magic realism for me. An astounding novel.

The Sopranos is interesting because it's a story of pathetic men, acting out an authentic gangster life substantially based on gangster media, seeing their lifestyle collapse & their lives end because they're weak-minded children. Naturally the Sopranos subreddit thinks this is all fuckin badass

Periodic reminder that killings absent justification, and outside of armed conflict, is murder. The drone strikes in the carribean and pacific that still are occurring are murder. That government officials are committing murder.

if you are a Dem who for whatever reason does not feel comfortable actively defending trans rights (which you should) you have two good response options: 1. ignore it! just keep running ads about the economy 2. “I am focused on your pocketbook, my opponent is focused on children’s genitals”

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.

It's genuinely fascinating that the US president keeps announcing that he just flat out doesn't know what trade is, he legit doesn't appreciate the concept of exchange and instead views economic activity through the lens of a dragon attempting to maximise its gold hoard to sit upon.

There is a branch of American Christianity that is now dominated by heretics. I used to think they were merely the Grand Inquisitor in Dostoevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov“, but that was too hopeful a diagnosis. They’ve verged on to sacrilege and wholly embraced evil, for the want of power. Demons.

It’s also a mark of his ignorance about what makes a military effective. His priority is on appearances - how troops look, instead of policy, planning and strategic goals. This is all the more glaring as the country is neck deep in a strategic blunder in the M.E., while the SecDef does pus-ups.

The thing about racism is that the racist has to pass off the triumphs of others as his own. Seems to me that a Briton is as far removed from Ancient Greece as a West African (if Greece is suddenly to be the Venus clam of our humanity), and as such has no greater claim to it than any other person.

It is said that politics is downstream from culture, but something flows from the White House into the national bloodstream, and the integrity of the source of that outflow is pretty bloody important.
