Said this before, but you could write an interesting book on the books/films/music that were huge in their time but rapidly disappeared from any collective knowledge. Only hardly anyone would read it, because they wouldn't recognise them.

For those asking, the seats were based on the 1969 "Carousel" by American industrial designer Elsie Crawford and used the very a la mode new material of fibreglass. They pop up online for sale occasionally but we're talking multiple thousands of pounds

this has reminded me that when Bags for Life were introduced all the chains made a big deal of saying they would replace your bag when it broke/wore out. But enough time has passed that we all forgot and they took those signs down… and never mentioned it again, hmmmmmm

On this day 12 and a half years ago I saw the coolest ever iceberg. Never seen one like it since. Fellsfjara, Jökulsárlón, #Iceland
A six-foot (ish) high turquoise iceberg with a small friend on a black sand beach. Grey rainy day with some of the turquoise reflected in the blank sand, and long exposure smooth waves breaking.

Not a drill. Take all necessary steps to protect yourselves. It’s too late for the person who tried to warn us all, don’t let their sacrifice be in vain
The underground car park at Tesco. On the wall by the lifts is a chilling message stuck onto the store signage:
TESCO BANANAS LOOSE
The sticker is ripped along the bottom edge, obviously a terrible struggle has taken place

I was looking at this again, admiring the ridiculous amounts of skill and bravura technique and just noticed that Tezuka drew himself in there among his hundreds of brain children
Close-up section (lower left) of a drawing featuring a huge crowd of characters in some kind of parade. Osama Tezuka has drawn himself at the front of the march, holding one of the poles carrying his giant bird through the jolly throng. He wears the distinctive beret that you always see him in.

For example it costs the government £310 to process a settlement (also known as indefinite leave to remain) application, but charges ten times as much: £3226. www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2026...

🧵 People think the movie "Naza" is supposed to be a portmanteau of "Nazis" and "Gaza", but no, the name of the movie actually has a deep meaning behind it Naza in Hebrew (נז"א) is an abbreviation of נזק בלתי אגבי, which means "collateral damage" I've volunteered in a research unit >

Ragebait for typographers. Might have to sit somewhere else.
Two ads for a tech company on rectangular posters in a tube carriage, both white serifed type on black. Each is a two-line sentence centred in the panel. They’re both irritating obv but the more irritating one says

WE LOVE EVERYTHING YOU HATE
ABOUT RUNNING A BUSINESS.

You are supposed to infer that they are really good at fiddly details. But the letters ‘y’ and ‘g’ of ‘everything’ are colliding with the letters ‘i’ and ‘b’ in the line below because the spacing is too tight. A capable graphic designer would either nudge the top line fractionally to the left or move the two lines further apart. They didn’t use a capable designer.
those fiddly details up close. Descenders (tails of letters) running into ascenders (tops of letters that rise above the others)
‘y’ touching ‘i’ and ‘g’ touching ‘b’ y and i.

Phone cameras are pretty good now; this was on the other side of the carriage

When South Korea successfully stopped a coup, arrested the former president, and prosecuted him, it sent a very strong message to everyone else: "You can trust that 4 years from now, you won't have to worry about him returning and fucking everything up." The US under Biden did the exact opposite.

Ed was in a fucked up position. He knew it. His typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before. He told me that the words "Free Palestine" and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn't get past his public facing, "I don't take sides."

A door, ‘ fire exit/keep clear’ sign partially obscured by markers and stickers. It is completely sprayed with various kinds of graffiti and dripping paint. On top of sprayed grey/white S and M letters is a loop of orange initials and a few stickers. Stuck on top of the orange is a cheap mailmerge paper sticker made for addressing envelopes. Written on it in marker (off centre and not neat) is the word ‘mediocre’.Close up of the ‘MEDIOCRE’ sticker, beginning to peel off on one side which just adds to the brilliance
