every time i get suckered in by a "but what about all the useful stuff AI does in my life??" argument the useful stuff is either "something you could google in two seconds" or "highly-skilled labor you don't have and therefore can't fact check"

Going through and putting away our new Reality Fracture cards and saw that Jace really should have remembered his own lessons.
A Magic the Gathering card called Jace's Triumph where the flavor text reads "His triumph was not in outsmarting Bolas's plan, but in understanding why ultimate power is self-defeating."

Is there anything that makes you feel old quite like getting an email about a milestone school reunion? It can't have been that long since I graduated college. That only just happened.

I have been excited enough about Reality Fracture that I actually went to my first prerelease event. I went in expecting to fully lose every single game because I am not that serious a player. I actually won 4 out of 7. That only equated to 1 out of 3 rounds, but I did get a prize pack so a win.

I'm sorry but "All AI generated assets will be replaced on release if estimated revenue can at least fund it" is a really bad look on your Steam page. I'm extraordinarily sympathetic to indie devs. I mostly play indies! But you can figure out how to get real art or placeholders.

Oh you did not just tell me you would transfer me and then hang up on me. I recognize that call centers are a thankless job, but either you or the previous person I talked to lied to me so...not sure what you expect me to do with this situation other than call back angry at the next person.

I know it's the most ridiculous thing, but I'm super disappointed that a show I've been wanting to see live for 20 years is -finally- near me, and when I went to buy tickets it's almost $200 for two objectively not good seats. I can't justify that cost, so I still can't go to it.

tl;dr I have a spreadsheet where I track my ebooks because I'm like that. I had been linking to the book's information on Goodreads because I want to have a way to quickly remember what the heck a book is. But I want to move away from Goodreads. Any suggestions on other book based databases?

Use of AI taints everything else around it. For instance, the more I look at this Tomb Raider salad, the more I wonder if this was an AI asset that won’t end up in the final game. Someone could have made it, but it just looks uncanny to me now I know they used it *somewhere*.

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.

As a Certified Film Nerd, I run into this a lot. There are classic movies I think everyone could enjoy (All About Eve for example). But others are difficult things only certain types of people can love. Others are actually kind of boring and bad and I still can't figure out why they're classics.

Listen, I absolutely loathe limited time and exclusive content/merchandise. I don't understand why you would turn away people with money they want to give you in exchange for goods and services. On the other, apparently the way to get me to be a hypocrite is to do an old-school She-Ra collab.

The Salt Lake Tribune is a 150+ year-old newspaper that went the nonprofit route several years ago. It now brings in $13MM in revenue vs $12MM in expenses. Enough to support a robust news operation. This is the way for metro news orgs. www.cjr.org/first_person...
That move has been a success. Last year, the Tribune brought in about thirteen million dollars in revenue, a million dollars more than it incurred in expenses.
Its revenue came from several streams: contributions from big foundations and individual donors, advertising in its online and twice-weekly print editions, and subscription fees, though the paywall would be removed shortly after Ileft Utah, in May. Similarweb's ranking system regularly puts the Tribune's traffic among the nation's top two or three nonprofit news organizations, alongside such stalwarts as ProPublica and the Texas Tribune. It's also ambitious, acquiring one newspaper in southeast Utah and starting another in the southwest corner of the state. Recently, management signed its first contract with the new newsroom union, guaranteeing a sixty-thousand-dollar salary floor, at least three weeks of vacation, and generous work-from-home provisions.

It's start to get really annoying that every shopping website is just a Temu now. I never want your "marketplace" crap, I want to buy from the retailer itself. I wonder if there's stats showing the only marketplace sales are people who don't realize it's a third party seller...

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.
