“What a blessing to the neighborhood, what a blessing to the people who will call this home, what a blessing to the city and to the region,” said Geoff Brace... “To look at this building and to realize that it’s not just dignified housing, it’s contributing to the quality of the community.”

Some uplifting local news: “It’s been wonderful, coming from a little room that we were all sleeping in, to all the children having their own rooms that they can share with their siblings, having a dinner table to sit at at dinner time, a shower where they can have warm water”

Graham Linehan is calling the people who murdered a trans man in cold blood, heroes.
Screenshot of an X post by Graham Linehan (@Glinner) commenting, "It looks like these two are heroes who may have saved some kids".
Linehan quotes a post by Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) that reads: "Damn. According to a witness of the shooting homicide of the trans New York Times executive in Dublin, Calif., the elderly Chinese grandparents calmly walked away after the exec was dropped to the ground".
Below the text are two police mugshot photos side by side: on the left is an elderly Asian woman with short, wavy gray hair wearing a white shirt, and on the right is an elderly Asian man with short dark hair, slight facial stubble, and a white shirt.

Can’t focus at all today. Have been trying to get brother inside ahead of floods being warned about since last week, but it’s not easy. He has some sort of infection or illness that has caused his hand and arm to swell up. Stressed. I’m super stressed. Not helpless, but… I’m so far from home.

My comments are all old and not very insightful, but it seems that things are even worse now than in Reagan's ultra-commercial age. The Trump era is just Reagan brought to its horrifying logical extreme. There is no art. There is just sellable entertainment slop.

Thus, if a machine can churn out something that looks like human art, and people can make money from it, then it serves the same function as any film. At least in the minds of the armchair execs who only see movies or books as "things to sell."

I feel that the phenomenon of "armchair executives" contributed to the thinking that A.I. can producer real art. For the better part of 20 years, casual filmgoers have been talking about movies and TV shows in terms of ratings, B.O., and brand viability, not necessarily story or character.

Casual, non-industry folk now refer to long-running film series as franchises, and no one bats an eye. Artists are now colloquially called "creatives" everywhere. The term "content" is used to described just about any medium. These aren't art terms. These are business terms used by execs.

The thing about the FDIC is that it was undermined fatally in 2023 when SVB's entire deposit base was backstopped. This was on top of an already stressed legitimacy of the FDIC being contingent on there not being a full run. Since '23 everyone is playing as if full deposits are covered by FDIC.

don’t get headline sniped, these are standard plans from a liberal/progressive policy standpoint.
The platform, dubbed the Building A Healthier America Policy Agenda, takes aim at pesticides in food, backing legislation that would give people the right to sue pesticide manufacturers over harm caused by the products. It seeks accountability for polluters, with a pledge to get industry lobbyists out of regulatory agencies. And it aims to get substances such as lead and microplastics out of water, in part by strengthening federal drinking water rules. It also proposes investments in school meal programs and grocery stores on wheels.
