Exactly. Victims—especially children—are tokenized to push lawmakers’ carceral agendas, and the legislation named after them often has little if anything to do with what actually happened to them—and it certainly wouldn’t have prevented it and won’t prevent it from happening again.

The same systemic violence that turned Christa into a murderer continued while she was inside and people are shocked she didnt revert into a well-adjusted person?

What kind of "inner work" are y'all expecting from women locked in cages all day, being raped and sexually harassed by male prison staff, being denied medical care, having to trade sex for menstrual products, only being allowed to bathe 1-3 times a week, being served rotten food, being denied mental health treatment, etc.

I’ve seen this so many times, and it makes me sick every time. There’s one particularly egregious case that always stuck with me too, where they threatened a pregnant woman; I think about her all the time… wondering about the baby… wondering if they’re both okay… wondering if they’re still alive…

The vast majority of child maltreatment cases are related to neglect, and the vast majority of neglect cases are related to poverty. The family policing system is just another tool for the state to exert its power—it was never intended to protect children.
