I don't seen the point in GenAI for writing. Writing is a craft. You get better by struggling with it. By doing the hard bits. By SUCKING A LOT. GenAI is like me making a microwave meal and then claiming I'm a chef. (Except I'd be closer to a chef than GenAI makes you to an artist/writer/etc.)

one of my FAVOURITE language things is hearing words from different languages and being like wait are they related. welsh "ceffyl" and french "cheval" (horse) are cousins! theyre both descendants of proto-celtic "kaballos", which got to french through gaulish!

Generative AI by definition is conformity. It is an averaging of anything you ask of it - quite literally guessing what the most likely version of a thing might be. It is, by definition, mainstream, as is everything it creates old and deeply ideological, as every model trains on similar data.

Love this! It's definitely come up in my present-tense work. I've had a copy editor insert "had"s into my flashbacks until I second-guessed myself and stopped stetting; I've had a copy editor ask whether a verb in past was a slip where it wasn't, and I've had copy editors catch me in actual slips.
