They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Eric Schmitt fucked up so badly today that even The New York Times isn't mincing words on how badly he fucked up.
NYT Headline: As Jack Smith Testifies, a Senator’s Accusation of Perjury Falls Apart

Subhed: A Republican eager to prove the former special counsel was dishonest appeared to instead demonstrate his own confusion over basic facts.

There’s the false accusation from a former state AG who should know better accusing someone of committing a crime based on zero evidence. Then there’s the behavior before, during and after. All of it really shows America what we already knew - Schmitt is scum.

Daytime session at Sherigu Community Library
Reading AMOAKO AND THE FOREST, Author: Deborah Cowley, Photos: Kathy Knowles. The book is about a Ghanaian forester named Amoako. He tells us about his job with a legal logging company. He explains how trees are chosen, how they are felled, the dangers of the work, and how logs are taken to the timber yard to make furniture. He says they never cut trees on Friday because it is a taboo in their culture. He also shows that they plant new trees to replace the ones they cut, and they use leftover wood so nothing is wasted.
