There has been an increasing sense in Minneapolis that we are on our own, that our elected representatives are unwilling and/or unable to take action to get these murderous Nazi thugs out of our community. I really hope that changes today. The time for pleading TV hits ended weeks ago.

The revelations about Summers & Epstein reflect a profession that has tolerated exclusionary norms and hostility toward women for decades. The discipline cannot claim credibility while ignoring its own misogyny. We need to enforce codes of conduct and prioritize accountability.#Econsky

Why is Workplace Sexual Harassment Underreported? The Value of Outside Options Amid the Threat of Retaliation
(Forthcoming Article) - Why is workplace sexual harassment chronically underreported? We hypothesize that employers coerce victims into silence through the threat of a retaliatory firing. To test this, we estimate how two external shocks which reduce workers’ outside options—unemployment rate increases and sharp cuts to unemployment insurance benefits—affect the selectivity of sexual harassment charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. We find that both shocks increase selectivity, which implies an increase in underreporting. Bolstering these findings, anonymous Google searches for “sexual harassment in the workplace” (total prevalence) spike relative to charges filed (reported prevalence) during the Great Recession.

From what I'm seeing in Europe, the real game changer here isn't really the Trump admin itself, but how quickly American elites - political, corporate, institutional and academic - just failed to respond and resist in any meaningful way. US prestige culture, as seen from abroad, just evaporated.

Apropos underskud/overskud: nogle gange godt med lidt perspektiv når man trækker "det naturlige lege" frem som argument. Her fra 1960erne. Her tør en rapport fra kbh ligefrem fastslå at halvdagsarbejde af moderen ikke skader børn. Selv heldagsarbejde synes ikke at skade. En hver tid har sine priors.
