Moreover, our findings speak to the important role of the policy environment for the impact of health care policies. ...and highlight the great potential that lies in digitizing records like these:

Why care? A lot of studies have focused on infants and targeted care - we study preventive toddler care and show that it matters - in contexts that lack encompassing health insurance and access to preventive care or have a low take-up.

Did toddler care make a difference? Yes, (i) for short- and long-run health overall, (ii) for LM outcomes of females, (iii) most so for disadvantaged kids within the universal frame and (iv) most so for the earliest cohorts least exposed to other policies/programs such as childcare programs.

We transcribed 1960s individual level records for 90,000ish Copenhagen children from a universal home visiting program to study a pragmatic RCT with toddler care. Infants born on the first 3 days of each month were assigned to care. Here is the nicest first stage that (at least) I have ever seen:

In light of Germany's recent discussions on our Erinnerungskultur, this resource is so important. It reminded me of how abstract and how concrete it is to keep the memory alive and use it with purpose, for a better future.

As one of the last ones being able to talk in person to my grandparents, the generation of the war, and as one who had actively asked for their memories, I feel drawn back to my teenage years and I wish I could talk to them more.

Why is Workplace Sexual Harassment Underreported? The Value of Outside Options Amid the Threat of Retaliation
(Forthcoming Article) - Why is workplace sexual harassment chronically underreported? We hypothesize that employers coerce victims into silence through the threat of a retaliatory firing. To test this, we estimate how two external shocks which reduce workers’ outside options—unemployment rate increases and sharp cuts to unemployment insurance benefits—affect the selectivity of sexual harassment charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. We find that both shocks increase selectivity, which implies an increase in underreporting. Bolstering these findings, anonymous Google searches for “sexual harassment in the workplace” (total prevalence) spike relative to charges filed (reported prevalence) during the Great Recession.

From what I'm seeing in Europe, the real game changer here isn't really the Trump admin itself, but how quickly American elites - political, corporate, institutional and academic - just failed to respond and resist in any meaningful way. US prestige culture, as seen from abroad, just evaporated.
