My weekly reading of the funeral notices in the Dewsbury Reporter and another family requesting mourners to wear the colours of Leeds United. A football club isn't just about football. It's about identity, shared experiences and belonging to a community. #lufc

I'm sorry if this is obvious but the Tory proposal to exempt family homes completely from IHT will lead to 1] pensioners buying the biggest houses they possibly can 2] pensioners refusing to downsize which can only be bad news for younger families trying to buy family homes

One thing the the discourse about whether £100,000 is a lot of money to live on (it is, let me stop you there) has shown me is that lot of a rich people have no idea just how rich they are compared with their fellow citizens.

I'll remember Esther Rantzen for an interview printed in a magazine I read in the dentist's. She was talking about grief and loneliness after the death of her husband. Her comment that she had plenty of people to do something with but now had no-one to do nothing with struck me as really profound.

The BBC news summary this morning went seamlessly from "critics warn PM scrapping triple lock would be electoral suicide" to "critics ask if PM has nerve to make tough decisions" and I don't think it's a particularly pro Burnham stance to suggest he might not be the entire problem here.

This is the fundamental difference between Labour and the right. The latter craves power and relishes using it. Labour is terrified of it because of an imposter syndrome rooted in the belief - shared by the right - that England is a right wing country which sometimes allows Labour to govern.
