Whilst in Edinburgh, got to do a very cool thing and enjoy the summer solstice -- and its sunset -- atop Calton Hill there. So here's a shot from that. Please enjoy. Or don't. I'm not your parent. Not until I get the time machine working anyway.
Landscape-oriented, er, landscape photo. A look out over Old Town Edinburgh from Calton Hill on the Summer Solstice. Edinburgh is a fascinating cluster of beautiful, dramatic, dire buildings, all of which are anchored by the dormant / dead volcano in the middle of town which is topped with Edinburgh Castle. Then there's the Balmoral, and the Mordor spire of the Scott Monument, the Haggis Dome, the Ziggurat of Wayward Sheeps, and okay I might be making some of these up. Anyway, it's very pretty, and all of it is kissed with the peach veneer of a coming sunset. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig.

Super disingenuous framing by HuffPost. Look. I'm the king of calling Bernie and his Bernie Bros and the DSA Bros out on their anti-Black racism. This is not that. He was asking a *Black leftist*, how they address nonsense from *Black centrist* because as a white leftist, this is not his place.

there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood — of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.

I think about this quote every single day and I think about how much potential we, as humans and as a country, have lost because of hate. Our Constitution and institutions would be so much stronger right now if they were also built with Natives, Black people, and women as equals.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Same with Jan. 6. It's a form of Orwellian doublethink, and why MAGA is properly understood as a post-truth movement. Not really "I believe both of these are true, even though they're contradictory." More like "true-or-false has no value, words are merely tools to get power and hurt enemies."

Panel 2: Journalist continues to skip. Two more people shout “trans people suck” and “immigrants suck!”

The second two panels are titled “Journalist Visits Bluesky”

A Himalayan scene at dusk where Nuptse commands the foreground, its icy ridges sharp against the darkening sky, as Everest behind it burns with alpenglow, restoring the true hierarchy of the range.

'Transparenz' #FotoVorschlag 'Transparency' In the glass dome of the Reichstag in Berlin, Germany #photography #scape #UrbanGaze #HumansOfBluesky #Streetphotography #Urban #ECK #outdoors #EastCoastKin #travel
The image shows the interior of the Reichstag dome in Berlin. It captures the dynamic architecture of glass and steel, as well as the movement of visitors on the spiral ramps. The photograph was taken from one of the lower ramps, looking slightly upwards (low-angle shot). This emphasises the domed, futuristic structure of the dome. Large, curved concrete elements in the left and upper parts of the frame frame the view. Through the glass façade, one can see the Berlin cityscape in the background beneath a clear, blue sky. Two curved pedestrian ramps wind their way through the image in gentle curves. Numerous people of various ages walk along these paths, recognisable as silhouettes or in everyday clothing. The delicate steel framework supports the large glass windows, which dominate almost the entire image. In the top right-hand corner, the structure is reflected in the central mirrored surfaces of the dome. On the left-hand side, a German flag can be seen flying outside the building.

text: Sincere question: do Trump supporters who genuinely want to reduce political violence actually think that lobbing transparently hypocritical accusations about the left's rhetoric is in any way effective?

Are we really gonna go through another cycle where MAGA folks point out incendiary rhetoric on the left without ever acknowledging that some of the most violent and incendiary rhetoric in America comes from the President and his supporters? Do you not think the rest of the country has eyes and ears?

It's truly awful that President Trump has been the target of political violence. It's also truly awful how he's frequently talked about his political opponents: accusing them of treason, amplifying calls for their execution, publicly celebrating their death, calling them scum, garbage, vermin, animals. It was like 3 weeks ago that he threatened the annihilation of an entire civilization! It was just a few months ago that he and his White House knowingly smeared two Americans who'd been killed by federal agents as domestic terrorists!

I hate political violence. I hate what happened last night. Probably 99% of Americans agree. But let's not insult everyone's intelligence by pretending that the most powerful person in the world isn't a huge part of the problem here.
