The US Web Design System is load-bearing infrastructure for thousands of government websites. It makes it easy for small teams with no resources (i.e. most .gov teams) to make usable, accessible websites that work for everyone. Today, it's as close as it's ever been to being replaced with AI slop.

Here's why this is so grim. Folks expected jobs growth to slow to +80k, but we got -23k. Also downward revisions to the last two months subtracted a total of -103k. So over the past three months, the US economy created about -200k fewer jobs than we had thought.

I used to think a monorepo made a lot of sense, but having worked in a large one I now think they’re an awful developer experience. Slow even on a fast machine, too many commands, too much to sync and cache. Teams need better dependency management than just an NX graph.
