The fundamental flaw of centrists is that they assume all sides enter into the debate equally and with the same intention. Fascists do not want debate, they want power.

Matthew Syed reckons we need "more bouts of unemployment" to make "the economy more vital and dynamic". You first, mate. I hope your unemployment will make you "happier and healthier". Or did you only mean other people?
Matthew Syed

There is nothing neoliberal about our culture of debt and bailouts

Andy Burnham's analysis of the country is completely wrong. We should be waking capitalism from its comaWe need more boom and bust. More economic turbulence. More bankruptcy. More bouts of unemployment. I mean this literally. Everyone will be richer, happier and healthier, and the economy more vital and dynamic.

Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.

Its unlikely Simon Clarke has bad memories of the 1970s as he was born in 1984. This helps to explain why he forgets a recession made worse by Thatcher driving interest rates up with her uneccessary monetarist policy. The only thing that saved the tories was the Falklands war & North Sea oil.

History is written by the victors. Thatcher broke the power of trade unions by mass unemployment, industrial restructuring, frittered away N Sea Oil, laid the foundations for the current housing crisis, decimated local bus services, hollowed out local government and introduced the poll tax.
Simon Clarke

Andy Burnham seems to remember a different 1970s to the rest of us. Britain in 1979 was utterly broken - ravaged by unaccountable trade union power, economically stagnant, the sick man of Europe.
The 1980s saw a remarkable national recovery based on free enterprise, the rule of law and championing Western values. And it is this that our Prime Minister rails against...

We're repeatedly told that asylum seekers pose a threat to the good people of our country... Reading about the threatening and violent treatment of elderly and open minded locals in Crowborough I get the impression that the real threat comes from closer to home. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
On Facebook and other platforms, people

attacks, petrol bombs and rape. The dossier.

another case, a 92-year-old church volunteer

1979 is 34 years from the end of World War II but 47 years before today. The Right keep saying Britain is broken, maybe even the sick man of Europe. Conditions have changed, some self-inflicted. But the current system is not working for the vast majority of this country.
