Of course live-streaming the firing squad execution of a Muslim America is beyond sick. But announcing it now, weeks before the election, is also pretty clearly (to me) a campaign move by the GOP. They want the outrage from elected Dems so they can twist it into anti-Dem messaging. Disgusting.

Why is almost every "news alert" labeled "BREAKING" now? It's always "BREAKING: somebody issued a press release" or "BREAKING: someone who used to work for the government said something" or "BREAKING: Completely predictable thing occurred" OH Hold everything. I'm not sure I can digest this quickly.

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

There’s really nothing to say in comment on Bret’s latest that Toni Morrison didn’t say perfectly 51 years ago.
It's important, therefore, to know who the real enemy is, and to know the function, the very serious function of racism, which is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining over and over again, your reason for being. Somebody says you have no language and so you spend 20 years proving that you do. Somebody says your head isn't shaped properly so you have scientists working on the fact that it is. Somebody says that you have no art so you dredge that up. Somebody says that you have no kingdoms and so you dredge that up. None of that is necessary. There will always be one more thing.

The White House Press Corps should've walked out as soon as the Trump regime banned the Associated Press for calling the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of Mexico." That was Feb 15, 2025. The first month of Trump Term II. Not surprising that abandoning principles for weak acquiescence led to more abuse.

It's not just tumbling enrollment. Graduate programs rely on foreign students to sustain *critical mass.* Many (if not most) would collapse after a sudden 30% drop in enrollment. They think they're creating space for white, U.S.-born students, but they're actually destroying their own schools.

no, actually, an executive order cannot "expand the category" of people excluded from birthright citizenship, we literally just went through this www.axios.com/2026/08/06/t...
Zoom in: Trump's administration argues that the ruling still grants him the authority to limit birthright citizenship under long-standing exceptions recognized by the court. The executive orders apply only to future births tied to four categories:

Children born of foreign diplomatic staff working on behalf of another government while in the U.S. The 14th Amendment doesn't confer automatic citizenship to ambassadors' families, and this order would expand that category to other noncitizen employees.
Children of people who are classified as alien enemies, including those who belong to federally declared terrorist groups. The 14th Amendment doesn't apply to invading armies, and this designation would expand that category.
