My new novel is out a week from today — tough timing because of the election & uh, you know, the world. With book reviews an extinct species, it's hard to get the word out. So tell your friends! Meanwhile, I've started the next one, folkish horror set in a bog at a remote Maine hunting camp. Onward!

Since PTSD is being invoked to excuse any and all abuse and misconduct, let us acknowledge where it is most common. .... From my book Recollections of My Nonexistence.
The former Marine David J. Morris, author of a book on post-
traumatic stress disorder, notes that the disorder is far more com-
mon and far more rarely addressed among rape survivors than
combat veterans. He wrote me, “The science on the subject is pretty
clear: according to the New England Journal of Medicine, rape is about
four times more likely to result in diagnosable PTSD than combat.
Think about that for a moment— being raped is four times more psy-
chologically disturbing than going off to a war and being shot at and
blown up. And because there are currently no enduring cultural nar-
ratives that allow women to look upon their survival as somehow he-
roic or honorable, the potential for enduring damage is even greater.”

One of the worst things about this is that people are feeding their genuinely written-by-them work into AI checkers to make sure it doesn't accidentally read like AI. In doing so they're giving the AI a nice chunk of their work to train on, ensuring that at some point their stuff will actually flag
