My son went shopping by himself and bought nice clothes but too big. He was digging in about not bringing them back until I told him he looked like Kris Kross and showed him the video for Jump and now he's bringing the clothes back.

Truly vile. At a public event, Mike Graham mocked Andy Burnham’s father for having Alzheimer’s, less than three weeks after Roy Burnham died and apparently on the day of his funeral. Just the lowest of the low.

It’s ironic -or maybe deliberate in some cases- that so many of the thugs in riots have, themselves, a history of domestic violence. Not protecting women and children but increasing “A constant state of fear, and adjusted living and working, is just part of our everyday life now.”

Sounds a bit like the 'fact' that coconuts kill more people per year than sharks, which was based on stats from one hospital in a coconut growing region then extrapolated to the whole planet.

It creates a massive inequality around them where everyone is dependent, few are prepared to be honest with them, & on the rare occasions someone is they don’t have to accept it. They can have relationships with other super-rich people, but those people are just as messed up as they are

This is one of the (many) reasons I believe societies should structure their tax systems to prevent people from becoming billionaires. It’s bad for society & it’s also extremely bad for them. Many of the super-rich are totally messed up because they can’t trust anyone & they’re right, they shouldn’t

On behalf of his daughter, thank you. I wrote a letter to my father in my 20s detailing every instance of casual then culturally acceptable sexism I experienced growing up, asking him to consider its cumulative effect, explaining how his views sustained it. I ended up apologising for upsetting him 🤷‍♀️

While I understand why you think anger isn't constructive, these guys need to see that saying things like that makes people angry. Of course they won't change their mind in the discussion, but imagine if they got the natural anger from everyone they pull that stunt on. Maybe they'd reflect some.

A man of my acquaintance once got ragingly offended by the use of "give me the confidence of a mediocre white man" as a joke. Spent days insisting it was sexist/racist despite best attempts to explain concepts like privilege and intersectionality to him. He got pandered to in the end 🙄

Still thinking about this. It’s 4th time in the past decade where a well-off white man I’ve made (sort of) made friends with gets comfortable enough with me to reveal that they hate the idea that people like them are somehow “privileged” and don‘t understand all the “fuss” about racism, sexism, etc

A view of national/ethnic identity predicated on intra-group unity and intergroup incommensurability is literally and inherently racist. It is also a pervasive outlook with a long history, which means that many people have internalised it. Including those it most harms.

The same British state ruled the UK and Mauritius for 158 years, but the two territories took very different "development" paths. This was not enlightened colonial generosity. This was exploitation. Exploitation justified by the same racism that Braverman has internalised and is now regurgitating.
