NJT is legally barred from "destructive competition" against private carriers as part of its founding legislation, which was intended to prevent NJT from running every other bus company into the ground with state money when it took over TNJ in 1980, then by far the largest bus operator in the state.

If it happens “all the time,” then fare enforcement should stop on MTA Buses until they have a fare collection and validation method that doesn’t punish people who have done nothing wrong. Cannot believe this is still happening.

Delayed transaction? Get a ticket.
Found out the hard way what happens if a fare enforcer checks your phone for payment when OMNY delays posting your transaction: you get a ticket.
MTA let me off with a warning, but what a hassle. I asked the guy if it happens often, and he told me "all the time."
Also asked him if I would have better luck with the OMNY cards. Nope. Same deal. His suggestion? Wait until it posts and then dispute the violation.
SO if there's a delay (which happens all the time), you're getting pulled off the bus.
Edit: sorry, assumed this was common knowledge, the MTA enforcer has a device you tap. It shows the most recent transaction.
My apple pay tap finally showed up hours later!! So

The Port Authority quietly added and raised new fees and tolls to help pay for the new $11B Port Authority Bus Terminal - so quiet even its own users didn't know. Its biggest user - NJ Transit - is facing a 60% increase in costs in FY27, compared to FY25.

The Port Authority will charge NJ Transit new fees to use its Manhattan bus terminal — a cost that could get passed on to NJ Transit riders.

The trend shift in adults per family household is so insane. its even more insane that every important policymaker and economist thought we were slowly soaking up a glut of homes even into the 2010s. And it’s even more insane that there are still supply-crisis skeptics today.

Headline from The Onion that says "Stop Making Movies About My Books" with picture of Theodore Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss.

On the fourteenth of March, in towns nationwide,

In every cinema, multiplex, on every barnside,

Gleamed another adapting of one of my books,

CGI-ed and digitized by another sly crook.

Horton, my favorite—look how he’s been treated!

Stuffed with tinsels and tassels and promptly excreted!

The puns! And the filler! The script fees you must save!

While I tumble and grum-humble around in my grave.

Did you learn all but squat from The Cat In The Hat?

Please tell me you fired the prick who made that.
