Data labeling is notoriously brutal and underpaid work. Workers sometimes earn as little as a few dollars a day, work under algorithmic management, and, because they’re sometimes trying to train AI what not to do or show, they are often shown graphic, violent, or sexual content for hours at a time.

I was talking to a lawyer about a story, and he was like, "Why is no one talking about what's happening to my clients???" and I was like "Well, every single industry in the United States is going through the worst crisis it's ever faced, but journalism was ahead of everyone in that race"

I've often wondered how Steven Pinker's amazingly sloppy research and baseless claims* have for so long received a free pass. I wonder whether it could have something to do with a. his connections with the rich and powerful; b. his claims often aligning with what they want to hear. *See next post.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Peacefull Observers

To Our Beloved Guardian Angels,

In these times of profound trial, when darkness sought to engulf our community, you emerged as beacons of unwavering light. When fear gripped our hearts and the very fabric of our existence trembled under the shadow of masked agents-when we were hunted, chased, and made to feel as strangers in the place we call home- you stood tall. You stood with us.

With courage that defied the chill of winter winds and compassion that warmed the coldest nights, you became our shield. You left the comfort of your daily lives, your workplaces, your routines, to stand guard at our doors. You brought us the gift of warning-the loud sirens that pierced the silence of impending danger, giving us precious moments to seek shelter, to protect our children, to preserve our dignity.

You did not merely observe; you acted. You confronted hatred face-to-face. You stood between us and the agents of fear, becoming the voice for the voiceless, the strength for the weary, and the hope for the hopeless. In your presence, we found sanctuary. In your resolve, we found resilience.

Your bravery is a testament to the boundless capacity of the human spirit. You stood against the tides of xenophobia, Islamophobia, and every form of prejudice that seeks to divide humanity.
You embodied the highest ideals of human dignity, honor, and solidarity. You reminded us-and the world-that America's true strength lies in its embrace of those who seek refuge, its promise of freedom, and its unwavering stand for justice.

Your sacrifice will echo through generations. We will tell our children, and they will tell theirs, of the guardian angels who stood tall when hate knocked at our doors. Your legacy is etched in the heart of our community-a living history of compassion without limits, courage without borders.

(Alt text continues on second picture, because Bluesky has a 2000 character limit on alt text for some reason) You are the reason hope still shines. You are the reason America remains a home for the persecuted, a land where freedom rings true. We love you. We honor you. We will never forget what you have done.

May God bless you, protect you, and keep you close. Your light will forever guide us.

With Eternal Gratitude, The Community You Saved

One thing sort of flying under the radar is the Fort Bliss aspect. CBP/DHS has a large detention camp (Camp East Montana) where detainees have been dying and the Army seemingly isnt investigating despite being on base land. And now the DoD is lending CBP lasers it used near or on the base.

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

If President Trump maintains his tariff threats, Europe is ready. We are not seeking escalation.
Our hand remains outstretched, but we will not be blackmailed.
We are constantly experiencing new
provocations by Trump. There is a limit, and that limit has now been reached.

Maybe think of this next time, before you give the peace prize to a very obviously bent fash crank baying for America to invade her country, depose its government and put her in charge
The Nobel Prize museum in Oslo subtweeting the fuck out of Trump today.
Nobel Peace Center O
@NobelPeaceOslo
G..•
The #NobelPeacePrize medal.
It measures 6.6 cm in diameter, weighs 196 grams and is struck in gold.
On its face, a portrait of Alfred Nobel and on its reverse, three naked men holding around each other's shoulders as a sign of brotherhood. A design unchanged for 120 years.
Did you know that some Nobel Peace Prize medals have been passed on after the award was given? A well-known case is Dmitry Muratov's medal, which was auctioned for over USD 100 million to support refugees from the war in Ukraine.
And the medal displayed at the Nobel Peace Center is actually on loan and originally belonged to Christian Lous Lange, Norway's first Peace Prize laureate.
But one truth remains. As the Norwegian Nobel Committee states:
"Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time."
A medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate cannot.

Two pictures of David Lynch from his YouTube series during lockdown. In panel one he says "good morning, everyone. It's..."
In panel two he looks to the side in slightly aggrieved perplexity and the caption reads "It's an absolute shitshow out there, today."

The “if these men had loving fathers, then they wouldn’t be so violent” thing is another version of the “hurt people hurt people” trope that is fundamentally victim blaming and pro-violence. They aren’t violent because they were hurt. They are violent because they want to dominate.
