Katsu Curry for lunch at Dorinku Tokyo before I catch my last show of Edmonton Fringe. Love their curry here, it reminds me of ゴーゴーカレー (Go! Go! Curry) in Akihabara, near my old office. Just wish it was on their all day menu ‘coz getting here by 2pm is rough.

A plate of Japanese Katsu Curry with a thick brown curry, and juicy/crispy breaded pork cutlets over Japanese rice. There is shredded cabbage, pickles, and sweet tartar sauce arranged around the edges of the plate.

Shoutout to the sculpture near the UofA of the giant guy who apparently transformed into a window and his buddy looking up at him like “What the fuck, man?”

A sculpture in Edmonton near the University of Alberta titled InScope by sculptor duo Dam de Nogales (Edwin Timothy Dam and Veronica de Nogales Leprovost), installed in 2015.

It is a statue of a man whose body between shoulders and knees are replaced with a rectangular frame, and is intended to portray the message that “health is for the people” and that “knowledge bestowed is a great gift”

It is a gift from the Li Ka Shing Foundation to the UofA at the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology.

Discomfort is an essential part of growth and wouldn’t it be so embarrassing to be the exact same person thirty years from now, in a totally different world, because you were so averse to discomfort?

Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue

Increasing my discomfort tolerance has also been one of the greatest assets to improving my mental health.

I realize that this ending in Princess Maker: Children of Revelation is intended as a "Fail State" if you let your daughter loaf around at home too much, but I gotta say eating chips and reading books on a pile of soft pillows while cradling a giant chimichanga has a certain energy I can get behind.

One of the ending slides from the child-raising sim game Princess Maker: Children of Revelation, depicting the "Unemployed" end state that happens if the player opts to give their daughter too many rest days at home without any classes, jobs, or adventuring.

In the image, the player's daughter lays sprawled out in very casual clothing on a few large pillows. Her hair is messy and tied up in a bun. In one hand she holds a book that she is reading while listening to music from what looks like a Mini-Disc player via wired earphones. She has a potato chip in her mouth and an open bag of chips near her hip. In her other arm, she cradles a large dakimakura (or hugging pillow) that resembles a large sausage or a chimichanga.

Kids need/deserve traumatic films. Films that show death or lasting consequences that aren't resolved almost instantly. Fear, anger, grief and frustration should be part of kids movies. Kids arent stupid, they feel big emotions just like adults, they deserve to see those experiences reflected back.
