Only a 7.9% uninsured rate in 2025. Clear enough that the Medicaid unwinding post-COVID wasnt that harmful in aggregate. OBBB and enhanced ACA expiration tbd tho

every system has trade-offs; our system has traded quick access for a lot of people for making access really difficult for a smaller number of people. there are a lot of people who like that trade-off and don't want to give it up!

Last point: A really important part of cultivating political influence is knowing when and how to eat shit. Lots of people, including me, don't have the temperament for that, which is fine. But if you can't eat a little shit now and then, you're limiting your ability to influence live policymaking.

Anyway, I think there are real social and welfare benefits to federalism. Look at the minimum wage in states vs the federal rate! Or voting rights. But state welfare programs tend to be jenkier than a federal one that may or may not be real.

I think it would be crazy to say the inner workings of Medicaid are more well-made than Medicare. Still super odd to me that state-based marketplaces outperform the federal marketplace for the ACA though.
