maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that Americans aren’t uniquely stupid, voters everywhere have skulls filled with mush and worms. On the other hand, global fascism is probably not an ideal state of affairs.

These people hate the experience of being a person, and they fundamentally do not believe anyone else is as real a person as them. They think people are resources to mine. That's why this guy thinks his pervert glasses are Good, because Being A Person is a problem you solve for by Buying A Product.

Twitter post from January 24, 2019, from @Merman_Melville reading

"Being a billionaire must be insane. You can buy new teeth, new skin. All your chairs cost 20,000 dollars and weigh 2,000 pounds. Your life is just a series of your own preferences. In terms of cognitive impairment it's probably like being kicked in the head by a horse every day."

Here’s the thing about Y2K, the ozone layer, etc. The most leftist—in the sense of *valuing labor*—thing you can do is reject the brainwashing that tells you that heroism is running into a burning building and not the slow, patient, boring, unglamorous work of *preventing* disaster.

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since you’re more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.

You can tell summer is winding down when The Old Woman Of The Woods starts hunting for meat to help her and her young survive through winter hibernation.
A photo taken from the passenger seat of a moving car. trees and a guardrail, and a rear view mirror in the bottom of the frame. a blue sky and lush greenery. The Old Woman of the Woods, a gigantic shaggy bear-like creature with a face like an old lady (aside from a gigantic red toothy jaw) peers at the passing car. She's probably disoriented as she gets ready to hibernate.

Capitalism lives in the eternal "now". It doesn't want you to know about history, it doesn't want you to know art has existed for tens of thousands of years, it wants you slavering for whatever's coming NEXT, whatever's HOT and NEW, and ignoring everything else. You do not have to do this.

The Odyssey's marketing insufferable insistence that IMAX 70mm (a format that's available, charitably, a quarter of the planet away from me) is the definitive version of the film has done a better job dissuading me from seeing it than any complaints about historical accuracy.

The reason certain people are still on Twitter or complain how this place isn’t Twitter is because for a brief amount of time Twitter allowed specialty journalists, opinion writers, pundits, etc a chance to feel somewhat famous, or that they actually had influence, and they miss that like heroin.

John Swartzwelder had the best answer to this question.
How much time and attention did you spend on these scripts? Another
"Simpsons" writer once compared your scripts to finely tuned machines—if the wrong person mucked with them, the whole thing could blow up.
All of my time and all of my attention.
It's the only way I know how to write, darn it. But I do have a trick that makes things easier for me. Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, 1 always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue—
"Homer, I don't want you to do that."
"Then I won't do it."Then the next day, when I get up, the script's been written.
It's lousy, but it's a script. The hard part when I get up, the script's been written.
It's lousy, but it's a script. The hard part is done. It's like a crappy little elf has snuck into my office and badly done all my work for me, and then left with a tip of his crappy hat. All I have to do from that point on is fix it. So I've taken a very hard job, writing, and turned it into an easy one, rewriting, overnight. I advise all writers to do their scripts and other writing this way. And be sure to send me a small royalty every time you do it.

13. In short, all writing is political, because all writers are political, and so are all readers. We can't help ourselves in either case. It doesn't matter if you're writing a narrow polemic or an attempted blockbuster. It's okay to be comfortable with these facts; they exist even if you're not.
