With it being domestic violence awareness month, I want to send love to anyone quietly making their plans, who already tried but wasn’t ready, who feel stuck, who don’t know how to yet voice what’s happening, and those who already got out, continue to bet on yourself and your power. Keep going ❤️

Garnet is absolutely right here. More than that, #SCOTUS has made it clear, over and over again, that it is not going to let states use its "original" jurisdiction to sue other states in contexts in which the underlying question *can* be litigated in the lower federal courts. This is one of those.

Yeah, I’ve been in this industry long enough that I’ve seen data to show this. Trauma books and issue books by marginalized authors sell an order of magnitude better than when those authors write, say, fantasy romance with characters of their identity.

The fact that Schmitt’s team alerted the media to be ready for drama is the part that too few of you are focusing on. I did PR for years. It would have been a big deal, had it proceeded as planned. That it didn’t, for the precise reasons it didn’t, is revelatory. It speaks to incompetence.

Often I’ll remember this xkcd comic and get depressed. We’ve known climate change is real my entire life but spent decades pretending it wasn’t
Comic 2500 from xkcd: https://xkcd.com/2500/
“Global Temperature Over My Lifetime”
November 1982
Exxon International report predicts that fossil fuel use will raise global temperatures to about 1°C above their normal levels within 40 years
October 1984
I’m born in Easton, PA
Summer 1991
I learn to ride a bike
Spring 1992
My elementary school celebrates Earth Day and I learn about the greenhouse effect
1993-1996
I get very into Star Wars and Animorphs
Fall 1996
I stand around awkwardly at my first middle school dance
Spring 2002
I get accepted into college
Spring 2006
I somehow graduate despite spending most of my time playing Mario Kart
Summer 2006
I see An Inconvenient Truth in the theater and feel anxious
Fall 2011
I get married
Summer 2012
I read headlines about a global warning “pause” and hope that maybe things aren’t so bad
2013-2021
I read more about climate science and get steadily more alarmed
Spring 2016
I read the 1982 Exxon report
June 2020
Global 60-month average reaches +0.94°C, Easton, PA is 2°C hotter than normal for the fifth year in a row

Close up of the spine end of a book block out of its cover. You can see how neatly the signatures have been sewn together

With alt text for anyone who needs it:
A purple chart by the Sexual Violence Center of Cork (whose logo of a few steps leading up to a door is is in the upper right hand corner of the image, titled: "How to avoid sexual assault! :A Quick And Easy Guide*." The asterisk goes to the bottom left, where it says "*for perpetrators."

There are six numbered lighter purple boxes, stacked in 2 rows and 3 columns. The text in the boxes says the following:

1. DON'T PUT DRUGS IN PEOPLE'S
DRINKS

2. USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM!
IF YOU CAN'T STOP YOURSELF FROM SEXUALLY ASSAULTING
SOMEONE, ASK A TRUSTED FRIEND TO ACCOMPANY YOU AT
ALL TIMES TO STOP YOU.

3. WHEN YOU COME ACROSS SOMEONE WHO IS DRUNK OR
ASLEEP, THE BEST THING TO DO IS
NOT RAPE THEM.

4. WHEN YOU SEE A WOMAN WALKING BY HERSELF, LEAVE
HER ALONE.

5. IF YOU ARE IN A LIFT AND
SOMEONE STEPS IN, REMEMBER NOT TO SEXUALLY ASSAULT THEM.

6. CARRY A WHISTLE. IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT RAPE SOMEONE, BLOW THE WHISTLE UNTIL SOMEONE COMES TO STOP YOU.
